TOUR DESCRIPTION

Details

On this tour you will cover the majority of the city that is known as the “Paris of the South.” As you run through the main downtown streets you will discover a combination of Asheville's roots as a city, it's history through sculptures, and it's many architectural styles including Art Deco, Neoclassical, Spanish Renaissance and many more.

Pack Square is the central point of the city that is easily recognizable from the towering Vance Monument. This monument is a dedication to Zebulon Vance who was a North Carolina governor, U.S. senator, and an influential figure of the Civil War and postbellum times. We will begin our tour here and immediately start our run through time as we discover many key period's of Asheville's history from the Guilded Age to the Age of Diversity. Asheville's Basilica of the Saint Lawrence showcases the Spanish Renaissance style of architecture that has no wooden beams or steel anywhere in the construction. Plus, the rose bushes that border the front side during the warmer seasons are not to be missed.

The 15K tour also has us visiting the Montford Historic District. This mostly residential neighborhood is booming with distinct architectural styles and also includes the Riverside Drive Cemetery that has many important figures to American culture and history buried here.

In addition to the history and main sights, this running tour is also the perfect way to experience Asheville’s vibrant art and culture scene. Small galleries and converted buildings with studios hosting up and coming artists all add to the artsy feel of Asheville and as you run through downtown you will for certain appreciate the unique vibe of history and modern culture.

These are just some examples of the wonderful places you will see on this incredible running tour through the best places to visit in the U.S.A. In 2017 according to Lonely Planet!

  • DO YOU CANCEL IF IT RAINS?
No we do not cancel our tours if it rains, snows etc. The only instance where we would cancel a tour is if we would have a heavy lightning and thunderstorm. If this happens we will let participants know in advance either via email or phone.

It is rare that conditions are so bad, that we have to cancel, so if you are in doubt, expect to run!

    WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?
Asheville has four seasons so plan to dress accordingly!

We have cold winters and hot summers, so weather conditions vary significantly. It is always a good idea to check the weather conditions before travelling to Asheville, so that you know what temperatures to expect.

During the colder months we always recommend people to wear long sleeves as the temperatures can get quite chilly in Asheville.

In summer you can easily just wear a t-shirt and a pair of shorts/tights. It is, however, very important to remember sunscreen so that sun burn is avoided. A hat can also be very handy in summertime in general.

IS THERE WATER ON THE TOUR?
Water is not included so we always recommend our guests to bring their own water on a warm day. There are a few public water fountains along the way, so if you are in need of a sip of water, simply ask the guide to point out a drinking spot.

HOW FAST DO YOU RUN ON THE TOURS, DO I HAVE TO BE AN ELITE RUNNER TO PARTICIPATE?
Most of our tours are private, so the running pace is set by you.

IS IT POSSIBLE TO STORE BAGS AND CLOTHES AT THE PLACE WE START?
Unfortunately, we don’t have a storage place for your bags, please consider this.

IS IT POSSIBLE TO TAKE PICTURES ALONG THE WAY?
Of course! You can take as many pictures as you want along the way, bring your camera and if you want to take pictures at a certain place just ask your guide for a “photo stop”. In additional your guide will take photos along the route and then send them to you via e-mail after the tour.
