Runner on the ground - DAMIAN

10 years of running

Downtown Buenos Aires, known as the “micro centre” by the locals, is where the city’s history started. Runners will see the first churches and buildings and experience hundreds of years of history on this 10 km tour.
Downtown is full of narrow streets, some still with cobbles from the colonial time, and as you run through these narrow alleyways you will feel as though you have travelled back in time. You will pass through the most famous square of the country, Plaza de Mayo, our political and economic centre, from which the country is managed.

The tour begins in Plaza de St Martin, Retiro, by the Monument to the Fallen in the Falklands, a cenotaph dedicated to the 694 Argentine soldiers who were killed in the Falklands War. In the course of the tour you will see many of Buenos Aires’ biggest landmarks: The Casa Rosada, or Pink House, which seats the Argentine government and houses the president’s office and The Cabildo, which was the site of Spain’s colonial administration of the city. From here, the tour continues along the iconic Obelisco, the widest avenue in the country, where the kiosks, street sellers and protesters camping outside the government house give an insight into modern Buenos Aires. You will also see The Obelisco, a historical monument erected in 1936 to celebrate the quadricentennial of the city, and The Colon Theatre, considered one of the world’s best opera houses.

Finishing the trip off, you will pass the amazing Puerto Madero and Woman’s Bridge, an amazing rotating footbridge designed by Valencian architect Santiago Calatrava. It is one of the most famous landmarks in Puerto Madero and showcases Buenos Aires’ continuous effort to position itself at the vanguard of art and architecture in Latin America.

Old churches, hundreds of years of history, politics and the modern vibe of the Argentinian capital are all concentrated in this small part of the city. It’s a combination that makes this running tour through the most concentrated part of the country unique, interesting and lots of fun.

Great way to see the city

I did the 10k Downtown and Cultural Buenos Aires tour, and it was terrific. Damian was very communicative ahead of time and made sure we had a plan for the morning. He was a great guide, happy to give information throughout the tour. I don’t run often with others and tend to be a slower runner – this was not a problem and felt very stress-free overall. It was a hot day, and he was also quick to suggest adjustments to account for the weather. There were also plenty of breaks for photos, descriptions, etc. Overall it was a great way to see some of the city, meet someone who lives here, and get some exercise.

Wow! Wow! WOW! Damian was the perfect tour guide! It was absolutely perfect. I was a bit nervous about the distance since I hadn’t run in a while but Damian was super attentive and constantly checking in with me and offered me Gatorade throughout the run. We saw all of the main highlights of the city. I would do it again in a heartbeat. If you’re considering this tour even in the slightest bit, do yourself a favor and do this with Damian! He loves his city and it shows. Gracias, Damian! I look forward to doing another tour in the future.

Highly recommend this running tour. Great experience!

    Silvia Tolisano

The communication with Damian to set up the running tour and follow up was superb. I met with Damian in front of the Colon and we set out on an amazing running tour in the Centro de Buenos Aires. Damian perfectly selected the route, matching it to my interests and running pace. We stopped at all the main landmarks of this BEAUTIFUL city. Definitely a great experience, once that I hope to repeat in the near future when I return to Buenos Aires or travel to other cities around the world. The perfect combination for a running globe trotter. Highly recommendable. Gracias Damian!
