TOUR DESCRIPTION

Details

With more green space per person than any other UK city, Cardiff has some fantastic parks. Situated right next to Cardiff Castle, runners will take a big lap around Bute Park; full of history and intrigue and although it is found in the centre of Cardiff, Bute park’s grounds offer a bit of seclusion from modern life. More like a fairy tale forest than a garden, runners are treated to a rich mix of flowers, trees, ancient monuments and a sculpture trail.

Hovering over the city, runners take in the sights of Cardiff Castle. One of Wales' leading heritage attractions, the Castle's walls and fairytale towers conceal 2,000 years of history. Built by the Normans in the 11th century on top of a 3rd century Roman Fort. Just a stones throw from the Castle, at the heart of the city, runners will also get a true sense of rugby heaven as you pass the Rugby Stadium, one of the most well-known icons of modern Wales. Running north from the stadium, you will be treated to a 100m stretch of street art depicting flags and scenes from around the world, where runners are often keen to spot their flag and pose for a photo.

Winding down the narrow streets of the City Centre, we lap the impressive Cardiff Metropolitan Cathedral; one of only 3 Roman Catholic Cathedrals in the UK associated with a choir school. For the forrunate ones, we may even pass the Cathedral when one of the beautiful choirs is performing. A perfect pit stop before heading towards the Cardiff Bay.

Taking in the sights of chic Cardiff Bay which will include a visit to the dramatic Wales Millenium Centre and Welsh National Opera; opened by the Queen in 2004, it remains one of the liveliest and unique centres for performing arts in Europe.Thereafter we lap the open air Captain Scott exhibition, commemorating the spot where Captain Scott and his team of intrepid explorers commenced their voyage to the South Pole on the SS Tera Nova in 1910. Other notable sights that you will view around Cardiff Bay include: the Welsh Parliament, the Doctor Who Experience, the Norwegian Church and the Cardiff International Sports Village.

On a clear day and for those joining us on early morning runs, runners will be treated to a stunning sunrise over Cardiff Bay as the city slowly wakes up

  • DO WE HAVE TO BOOK IN ADVANCE?
Yes, we ask for at least 24 hours notice for our running tours. We have to check availability of one of our tour guides and we need some time to arrange all necessary tour details.
If less notice is given, we will do our very best to arrange a tour for you. Simply contact us as soon as possible.

    MEETING POINT?
If you have chosen one of our Private Running Tours and if your accommodation is close to the city centre or near to the tour route in Cardiff, we will meet you in front of your accommodation’s main entrance. It is therefore very important that you provide us with your accommodation’s address when you make your tour reservation or when you contact us regarding your tour enquiry.

Alternatively, if we cannot meet you at your accommodation in Cardiff, we suggest a meeting point close to the tour route or we will meet you at our standard meeting point in the centre of Cardiff. You find the standard meeting point for each tour on the tour pages.

WHERE DO I MEET THE GUIDE?
We meet you at your hotel or apartment address in Cardiff. The guide will then wait always at the agreed start time in front of the hotel or apartment building main entrance.

Very important, we will not enter the hotel lobby or apartment building, but always meet you by the main entrance.

When we will pick you up from an apartment in Cardiff, we will also not use the door bell of your apartment. The reason therefore is, that we don't know if the door bell is really working. So please meet your guide by the main entrance.

When we meet you at one of our standard meeting points, then please check the FAQ Meeting point for more information.

    THE GUIDE
You can easily recognize our tour guides. We will wear a red Go! Running Tours Cardiff T-Shirt, a backpack or something similar to store some water or some smaller goods and a camera for photos. And before we forget, we look of course ready to go to show you our amazing city from a runners perspective on a running tour in Cardiff.

All our tours are held in English, albeit in a Welsh accent! French is also available on request. It's time to enjoy Cardiff while doing what we love - running!

IS IT POSSIBLE TO STORE BAGS AND CLOTHES AT THE PLACE WE START?
Unfortunately, there is no storage for bags. Please travel light. We can only store some small objects in our backpack (mobile phones, keys. etc,).

    THE WEATHER
As the Norwegians say, “There is no such thing as the wrong weather, just the wrong clothes.” Tours go ahead, rain or shine (or snow). However, in very severe weather (to be determined by your guide) you will be offered to return at a later time, to postpone for another day or a full refund.

You should turn up at the meeting point as usual where your guide will advise if it is necessary to postpone the tour. Tours will usually go ahead, even if it is raining heavily.

    EQUIPMENT RECOMMENDATION
What should you bring for your running tour? Beside of a big smile, you should be prepared for the weather conditions during the different seasons. So please check the weather forecast and dress appropriately. Irrespective of the weather conditions, a water bottle is recommended.

Children are welcome on our tours. In the event of warm weather in the summertime, it is highly recommended that the children wear caps and sun protection (sun lotion SPF 50+).

    AGE RESTRICTION
You must be at least 18 years of age to book a Running Tour. Participants under 18 years have to be accompanied by a parents or legal guardian.

    THE PACE ON OUR TOURS
You must be at least 18 years of age to book a Running Tour. Participants under 18 years have to be accompanied by a parents or legal guardian.

    THE PACE ON OUR TOURS
PLEASE DON’T WORRY ABOUT THIS! Unless you are Mo Farah, we can adapt our pace to your pace. We are not on a race - this is a running tour.
Just in case you like to use your running tour as a part of your race preparation training, just tell us which pace you like to run.
If you should have still concerns about any pace related question, just let us know by sending us an email.

DO WE STOP DURING THE TOURS
Generally yes. We have short stops by the main attractions where the guide talks about the sights, the history and also share a few anecdotes. Just in case you prefer to run all time, just let us know before we start the tour.

    WATER SUPPLY
We can carry a bottle of water on our private running tours. You can also refill the bottle at some locations in Cardiff along the routes.

CAN I TAKE PHOTOS ALONG THE WAY
Of course you can at any time of your tour! Just let us know when you like to stop to take a photo.

By the way, we also take photos wduring the tour. So don't forget to smile at anytime! After the the tour we will upload the photos to Dropbox (to the cloud) and send you a link by email. Just follow the link to have a look on the photos. This service is of course without extra charge.

    STROLLER ON THE TOUR
You are more than welcome to bring your little one with you on a running tour. Please let us know in advance about it and we can plan a stroller "friendly" tour route. Our child-friendly guides can also do some of the stroller pushing for you. Our general recommendation for a running tour with a stroller are the early morning hours, when the streets are less busy and better to run with a stroller.
Unfortunately we can't provide you with a stroller.

CAN A BIKE JOIN THE TOUR?
If you have a friend or family member who would like to join the tour but is not a runner, we generally have no concerns with this person accompanying us on a bike. Of course the bike has to adapt to the runner. We will try to be as bike "friendly" as possible with the tour route.
When you book the tour, the person counts as a normal participant.
Unfortunately we can't provide you with a bike. This is because of insurance reasons.

  • If you need to cancel a booked service, it is mandatory to email Go! Running Tours by respondng on the booking confirmation email or via our contact form: Get in contact with us.

tip  BOOKING TIP:
BOOK EARLY - GIVE US SOME TIME
We recommend to book your running tour minimum 2-3 days before your preferred tour date. Especially during the different high seasons, when many guests like to join our runs.
That will give the guide/city manager enough time to arrange together with you the last tour details like the meeting point, start time and to organize a personal tour guide for your unique and fun running experience.
