CONTRASTS OF COPENHAGEN – CITY AND CHRISTIANIA TOUR COMBINATION

Copenhagen, compared to its relatively small size has surprisingly numerous sides and you are well advised to explore as many as the length of your stay allows you. Our keen guests often ask us about best running tour combination to make the most of their stay and running tours.  Here below are some of our favourite areas this small capital has to offer – we have a tour to cover each and show you the contrasts of Copenhagen.

First of all, there is of course, the “touristy Copenhagen” (see our City Tour) with its must see attractions such as The Little Mermaid, The Royal Palace, Parliament or Nyhavn. You simply can’t visit Copenhagen without seeing these sights, taking a photo of them and learn about the related history and legends. But our small capital is much more than that and to understand what makes OUR Copenhagen stand out you should get beneath the surface of the city by exploring some of the non-touristy areas and hidden gems.

There is for instance the “modern Copenhagen”Copenhagen architecture running tour (see our Architecture Tour, not only for architects) with all its architectural pearls that are laid out around reflecting water only emphasizing their breathtaking construction. Running this tour will make you understand why Denmark is mostly known for its design and architecture and as the city continues to develop, we always include new buildings on this running tour and which never ceases to amaze.

Then we also have the “real Copenhagen” (Urban CPH Tour) where you explore how Copenhageners live their everyday life, where they hang out and what issues they face. After seeing this area you will surely want to return to take advantage of your local guide’s recommendation and will spend your visit eating and drinking your way through the multicultural part of Copenhagen.

And there is Christiania (Christiania tour), probably the most unique part of Copenhagen that has quickly become the third biggest tourist attraction of the city. It is something so different that doesn’t exist anywhere else. It does not matter how much you read about Christiania Freetown, you will be impressed, inspired and touched by this creative community.

Why run our City and Christiania Tour and explore the contrasts of Copenhagen

Just as you can’t have a favourite child we could not pick one favourite running tour or neighbourhood. Luckily we don’t have to choose only one and as we feature a wide variety of tours – long, short, traditional, quirky, you name it.  Most of our tours are not overlapping and this is why more and more of our guests join us on multiple tours to get a well-rounded picture of the city – or they book our XL or Half Marathon tour to run them all in one go. The most popular combination is the City and Christiania Tour and here is why you should also go for it.

In total you will run 18km (10km City Tour and 8km Christiania Tour) but these tours will show two completely different worlds. We recommend you to start your visit with our City Tour to understand how the city is laid out as well as to get useful tips and recommendations from our local guides on your first day. Our guests tend to truly enjoy our insights tips and we now have guests who book a running tour, not because they are runners, but because they have heard that we give good recommendations. 🙂

Now, that you have ticked everything off you must-visit list and you think that Copenhagen won’t surprise you anymore, it is time to venture out to where you won’t meet your fellow tourists. Christiania is packed with tourists, but we have constructed our tour, so that we show the undiscovered side of Christiania and where tourists do not venture – unless they are lost. Freetown Christiania has been called the “driving force of Copenhagen’s art and culture scene” a “successful social experiment” an „alternative community” or simply as described by our guests: WAUW!

christiania tourCity Tour and Christiania tour complement each other in a “contrast way”:

  • While on the City Tour you will be slaloming between tourists if you choose to run on midday, in Christiania we are running behind-the-scenes, where most tourists would not venture and you hardly meet other people apart from Christiania residents.
  • On the City Tour we are stopping by the mains sights to take pictures and in Christiania you are not allowed to take photos at the main highlight of the route, which is Pusher Street.
  • The City Tour takes you around the city centre running through several parks and historical streets and in Christiania you will have the feeling of being in the middle of nowhere or at least countryside, while you are right in the middle of the city.

Bespoke Copenhagen Half Marathon and 15km XL tour

These tours don’t have a set route and are customised for you in terms of the route, pace, sight and even the number of stops to suit your curiosity and fitness level. 15km and 21,1km allow you to see many different sides of the city and believe us; you will be surprised at the number of contrasts of Copenhagen. So if you don’t have time to join us on more than one tour you will still have the chance to explore multiple areas of Copenhagen with our longer tours.

Now it is up to your legs how many tours and kilometres they are up for!
