TOUR DESCRIPTION

Details

The “Must See” running tour of Kathmandu, that introduces all the main sights as well as insight into daily life in the Nepalese capital. We begin our running tour by passing Kamaladi that is the most expensive area of Kathmandu and also a business centre with many corporate offices. We continue our run to Durbarmarg a street from where you can see former the Royal Palace. The street is filled with offices, luxury hotels, fastfood chains such as KFC, Pizza Hut, high end brand shops, fine dining restaurants & cafes, airlines offices, pubs and bars. A true mix of everything.

Exclusively you get to visit the neighborhood Jhochhe that in the 60s and 70s was a popular hippie destination. Just off Durbar Square Jhochhe became the hippie centre of Nepal to such an extent that it soon became known as “Freak Street” and a hub for tourists in the flower power era. As we move ahead we enter the old bazaar called Ason and instantly an aroma of spices hit you. Locals throng to this place specially for shopping everyday for daily consumer items and you see old temples in every nook and cranny. The runners arrive at a popular junction known as Indra Chowk. There is a large rectangular temple known as Akash Bhairab “Indra Mandir”.

Next up is New Road. Located at the heart of Kathmandu, New Road is the busiest high street and market place in Nepal.

Towards the end of the tour runners visit a UNESCO world heritage site namely Hanuman Dhoka Durbar Square which is the historic abode of Nepalese Royalty. The Hanuman Dhoka Durbar Square has ancient temples and palaces and it is the perfect example of the religious and cultural life of the people of Nepal. The Hanuman Dhoka Durbar Square is also the historic place where the kings of Nepal were crowned before the country reverted to a democratic and secular status. The environs of the Hanuman Dhoka Durbar Square are filled with many imposing temples.

We return to the meeting point via another route. We run along the Tudikhel that is a large grassy ground in the centre of Kathmandu city . It is used by both the military and public for parades and various events. On the way back you also see Ranipokhari, meaning Queen’s pond, which is the artificial square-shaped pond in the heart of Kathmandu. History relates the pond to King Pratap Malla, the king of Kathmandu and we complete the tour at Narayanchaur where we began our tour.

We pick you up from the hotels and we greet and meet at Narayan Chaur park infront of Sanima Bank at Naxal, Kathmandu. Upon finishing the tour we will drive you back to your hotel.
