TOUR DESCRIPTION

Details

Experience the combination of urban diversity and green areas that Lyon has to offer. This is the perfect tour for runners who want to take a closer look at the green areas of Lyon and would like to break away from the hustling and bustling of the city. The run starts in upper Lyon, in the ‘6th arrondissement’ at the Foch Metro stop.

Running along the Rhone river, we first pass ‘Place Puvis de Chavannes’ with its magnificent church the “Église de la Rédemption” built in 1868. Upon reaching the Rhone river, after winding our way through the neighborhood, we will follow the river promenade north. With occasional views of the cityscapes, birds and boats moving leisurely up the Rhone, we eventually arrive at Lyon’s largest park and running hotspot, the green oasis of Parc De le Tete Ore. This park has a long and interesting history, with the first record of its name in 1530!
Parc De le Tête d'Or is 117 hectares in extent and was opened to the public in 1857. The name "Tête d'Or" originated from a legend saying that a treasure with a Christ's head could be buried in the park! Perhaps we may discover it?

The park contains a multitude of interesting botanical and faunal features, which include a large greenhouse, botanical garden as well as elephants and giraffes. Running in this park is tranquil, with large tree lined paths and an absence of noise to the largest degree. A nirvana for runners. We will run a maze of alleys lined with trees and pass various animal enclosures with opportunities to take pictures throughout.

The running tour will also pass through the botanical garden with its four rose gardens that provides views of ornate plants as well as the lake in the center of the park.

After passing through the park, we will once again head south partly along the Rhone and partly through the city to take in a few city-scapes before once again arriving at our starting point.

Additional info:
Since this is a private tour, you will define the pace and have plenty of time to take pictures, if you so wish. Since we are visiting a park we would also need to pay attention to the opening and closing times of the park. Opening and closing times will depend on the season in which we are running. This tour is the perfect for runners wanting to escape from the business of the city, without compromising on the opportunity to take in aspects of its history. Truly a tour not to be missed and get your green fix!

    WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?
Lyon has a temperate climate. The temperatures are mild in spring & fall, cold winters, and warm summers. It is always a good idea to check the weather conditions before traveling to Lyon, so that you know what temperatures to expect.

Light running equipment is sufficient in spring and summer. Sunglasses and sun protection are necessary during these seasons whereas caps, sunglasses and sun protection (sun lotion SPF 50+) are mandatory for children joining us on a tour. In addition, it is recommended that you pack light rain gear in fall and winter.

Comfortable sport shoes are sufficient. This said, it is recommended that you wear road running shoes.

Please, check the forecast the day before the tour in case it rains or it’s cold and dress accordingly. Keep in mind that we stop during the tour, so in colder weather an extra layer is recommended.

IS THERE WATER ON THE TOUR?
It is recommended that you bring your own water for the run. There are a few public water fountains along some of the tour routes, so if you are in need of a sip of water, simply ask the guide to point out a drinking spot.

IS IT POSSIBLE TO TAKE PICTURES ALONG THE WAY?
Yes, you can bring your camera or telephone to take photos. The running guide will also take pictures along the route, and if there is a certain place you would like your picture taken, then simply ask your guide. The pictures will be shared with you after the tour by email.
