What Level of Running is this Trip suitable for?
The moderately graded trail runs normally follow on well established trails and routes at lower altitudes which are generally lower than 1,500m. Some of the trails will involve some short, steep ascents. Previous experience is not essential. Suitable for runners who are fit and active and can comfortably run up to 6 – 10 miles per day. The trips involve lots of impromptu stops and our time on the trail will typically be between 3-4 hours per day.

ITINERARY
DAY 1: ARRIVE IN TIRANA
Arrival into Tirana
Check-in and relax at our hotel
Catch up with the rest of our team on the balcony
Late afternoon urban 10km run (slow-paced) to explore this mysterious city
Drinks at Bunker 1944
Welcome Dinner Ceremony
DAY 2: TO THE ALBANIAN ALPS
Early breakfast and kit check before heading to the Alps (2-hour drive)
Visit Skhodra city en-route for some cultural immersion of ancient Albania
Check into our mountain guesthouse with time to relax and explore the local area
Enjoy an Albanian feast and discuss our running plans for the next few days ahead
DAY 3: HIT THE TRAIL
Breakfast
We transfer a short distance to the trail head at Lepushe
15km trail run including a traverse of the Ridge of Berizhdol
We meet our support vehicle for our transfer back to our base
Relax with the afternoon to chill and recover
Wild swimming
Local dinner served from our guesthouse
DAY 4: ONWARD TO VUTHAJ
Breakfast
Pack up our kit and load it into our support vehicle for transfer
15km trail run through woodland and mountain trails to the valley of Gerbaja
Cross the mountain border from Albania – Montenegro
Arrive into the mountain village of Vuthaj where our luggage will be waiting for us
Check-in, time to relax and explore
Local dinner served in our guesthouse
DAY 5: THE HEART OF THE ALBANIAN ALPS
Breakfast
Load our luggage onto horses as they travel ahead of us 20km trail run to the valley of Thethi
Arrive into Thethi and check into our mountain guesthouse
Afternoon to relax and enjoy the local hot springs
Local dinner served in our guesthouse
DAY 6: THETHI – VALBONA
Breakfast
Pack up our kit and load it into our support vehicle for transfer
18km trail run to the Pass of Valbona and the Valley of Valbona
Arrive into the mountain village of Valbona where our luggage will be waiting for us
Check-in, time to relax and explore
Dinner: Albanian feast served with local beer and wine
DAY 7: JOURNEY TO DURRES
Breakfast
Group transfer to the coastal city of Durres
Check-in to our hotel with time to relax
Afternoon cultural sightseeing of the ancient city
Time on the beach
Farewell dinner at a famous local Albanian restaurant
DAY 8: HOMEWARD BOUND
Breakfast
Free time to do some last-minute exploring
Group transfer to the airport
Onward flight home

Trail grade:
Trail running in Albania is an absolute treat. The country is still well off the beaten path with very few travellers making it into the Albanian alps We expect the trails to be empty, travelling through beech forests, lush meadows, and open pastures. For the most part, we will be running on the soft grass of the entry valleys. All of the time being surrounded by the jagged peaks of the Accursed Mountain ranges. At times we will cross over from one valley to the next, climbing stepper paths with boulder and dry rock sections. Our maximum altitude will reach around 1,500m. Our large luggage will be transported by pack mules on the days we do not have access to a vehicle.
