Description
Andros Tracking Water Source run starts by the beach next to Andros town (what else can you expect from a Greek island after all…). We make our way following the coast towards the beach of Yialia where the local water stream meets the sea, forming a miniature estuary. From there, we start our ascend towards the village of Stenies, home to many shipping families, admiring the local architecture and the old pasta factory (the Fabrica), finally reaching Apikia, where the famous Sariza water source is located. We’ll enjoy drinking the cold water, fresh from the spring and we’ll head towards the Pythara waterfall, where any pre-conception of dry Greek islands is soon forgotten. From there we return to Andros town, following a different trail, enjoying breathtaking views of Andros town, the Aegean sea, even other nearby islands. as we approach our seaside starting point.
Throughout this route as we twist and turn around the paths and trails through the villages you will get a good idea of traditional island life, and the way that people’s needs, combined with the natural elements shaped its environment.
Our total ascend on this Andros Tracking Water Source route will be around 350 meters, so we will adjust the pace as necessary. This is a private tour so you will choose the pace that suits you. You should know however that parts of this route are uphill, so it will be a bit slower than usual. It would be wise to have the ability to carry some water with you especially in the summer months as it can get very hot. You can always top up your run with a cool swim at the beach where our route ends.
