The Downtown Must See! tour allows you to experience all of the necessary elements that make Asheville, well, Asheville! This is the 5k version of the Asheville XL tour that specifically focuses on where it all began, downtown. This tour highlights Asheville’s international claim to fame as a culinary, beer, nightlife, and musical experience all wrapped into one. We’ve got gourmet donuts at Vortex, single origin chocolates at French Broach Chocolate Lounge, and more sweets than you can possibly eat! If you want to bask in the diverse musical sounds from local, national, and international bands, we’ve got it. The Orange Peel, Asheville Music Hall, and the Thomas Wolfe are just a few of the sought after venues in downtown to play. Thai, Latin, Southern, Dim Sum, we’ve go it! There are too many too mention, but we’ll go start with Tupelo Honey, Red Ginger, Curate and Buxton Hall! Basically, we’ve got it!
The tour kicks off in Pritchard Park at the Deco Gecko statue which is central to downtown Asheville. This area, once known as a hog wallow during Asheville’s earlier days and former post office site is now a small triangular park lined with trees and park benches to take a load off and people watch. During the warmer months, there is an epic drum circle that takes place every Friday night. It’s even better when you bring a drum and join in. A sight and sound not to be missed.
Asheville has a lot to look at! This tour has been specially crafted to highlight the glorious pieces of artwork and artisans that dot the city. The city is vibrant with color thanks to the many murals and statues embedded into the landscape. Downtown offers everything from statues commemorating Asheville’s notables to flying squirrels! We also point out the best places to get above it all and see the mountains and sunsets from a bird’s eye view…so to speak!
These are just a few examples of the wonderful sights, sounds, and smells you will experience on this incredible running tour through what Forbes magazine calls one of the top fifteen coolest places to go…in the world!
