Description
For those who want to experience the iconic “locals” run in Austin, with the added city sights, this is the running tour for you.
Leaving from iconic Barton Springs, a unique natural swimming hole, we join the hike and bike trail, that circuits Town Lake, also known as Lady Bird Lake, named after the late Lady Bird Johnson.
As we run along the lake we make our way to Zilker Park, home of the world famous 6 day Austin City Limits music festival (ACL) and to the Capital Building, which will spoil us with great views as we pass. Lance Armstrong’s infamous bike shop, Mellow Johhny’s provides a great pitstop for one of sports ugly cheating episodes!
See “6th street and as we run along this famous street learn why Austin is known as the “Live Music Capital of the World”.
On this running tour, we will experience the Vintage houses converted to brew bars on the Historic Rainey Street precinct, and pass by the auspicious Driskill Hotel, rumored to be haunted, and still in mint condition from its early days.
We’ll view the Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center, dedicated to the preservation of the cultural arts of Mexican Americans and Latino cultures and as the run continues, we cross the Congress Street Bridge, home to thousands of bats that fly off every sunset, a real sight to see!
Austin’s hippie culture provides incredible street art which we will encounter on the route. Inspired and perspiring at this point, at the end of the tour, (optional) we’ll grab a cool off dip at the Springs. And you are able to re-fuel at one of Austin’s best Brew and BBQ’s, Uncle Billy’s.
