Description
This 10 km tour is jam-packed with beautiful and historical places as well as the Barcelona city vibe.
Runners are treated to experience three UNESCO World Heritage sites; all of them built at the beginning of the 20th century in Catalan Modernism Style (the particular local architecture similar to “Art Nouveau” or “Liberty Style” and for which Gaudí became our worldwide ambassador).
Starting in the very heart of Barcelona, we will run through the city centre to reach the Catalan Music Palace – a concert hall built in the early 1900 and a UNESCO World Heritage site. After taking in the breath-taking façade with its beautiful colours and impressive details as well as diving into the history, we continue our run through the picturesque streets of the old city.
Next up is the Arc de Triomf, an impressive landmark and the original access gate to the 1888 Barcelona World Fair. The wide avenue of the Arc de Triomf makes for smooth and enjoyable running as well as leads us to the second UNESCO site: the “Holy Cross and Sant Pau” Hospital. A beautiful medical complex that was used as a hospital until 2009, and is today as a museum and cultural centre.
As we leave the old hospital we will spot the Sagrada Familia, our next stop. Designed by Antoni Gaudi Sagrada Familia stands before you as a breath-taking architectural pearl. Even if you are not the “photo kind of person” this may be the location you make an exception ;-).
But hey – the tour is not over yet. Runners will also experience the bullfighting arena – where the last corrida in Barcelona took place in 2011, as bullfighting was prohibited by law in 2010. Also on this running tour is Catalonia’s National Theater and the Ciutadella Park with its romantic fountain… Its 10 KM jam-packed with history, quirky insights and stunning buildings.
