Runner on the ground - MATTIA

10 years of running

This 15km circular tour has time machine power; we will discover Barcelona and its transformation along the centuries from the middle ages, passing through the time of Gaudi and Modernism.

For this circular tour, our meeting point is in Plaza Catalunya – the beating heart of the city and where the famous Passeig de Gracia begins, one the most expensive and most beautiful streets in Spain which hosts luxury shops, 5-star hotels and gems of Catalan modernistic buildings, among them Gaudi’s “Casa Batlló” and “La Pedrera”, both UNESCO World Heritage sites.

The Route of Modernism continues to the symbol of the city: La Sagrada Familia, the unfinished Gaudi masterpiece. I would recommend to take a quick breath and admire the magnificence of this piece of art.

Not far away, at the end of Avinguda de Gaudi, we will face the magnificent modernist Hospital de Sant Pau, another UNESCO World Heritage.

Running down to reach the beach, we find ourselves in Born, the old city famous for its narrow and cozy streets, home of the modernist Palau de la Musica, Santa Maria del Mar Church (yes, the one of Ildefonso Falcones great book “Cathedral of the Sea”) and Arc de Trionf, the main access gate for the 1888 Barcelona World Fair, intended to welcome people. Don’t hesitate to ask your guide for some local tips, there is no better time and we can’t wait to share them!

Thru the big Ciutadella park, the first public garden built during XIX century over the old fortress, we will finally arrive to the beach. If you book this tour as an early morning tour and if we are lucky enough we can observe the sun rising and shining on Barceloneta and its iconic building such as the Peix (the fish) and sail shaped W Hotel. Be ready to be amazed by morning colors hitting the city and la playa.

On our way back, we will run aside the Port Vell arriving to the Columbus Statue. Here is where the famous Rambla begins. This emblematic avenue lined by tree lines is generally overcrowded by tourists, but has a completely different face during early mornings. Despite being nowadays famous for pickpocketing, it is still one of Barcelona’s must sees and running it without being hindered by people is a very good feeling. At the end of this 1,2 km Rambla we will reencounter Plaza de Catalunya; now you are ready to enjoy the city as a “local”.

This is a great tour if you are looking for a run that has it all – sea views, history, modernism – shaped into the unique feel of Barcelona.

    Beautiful sunrise run

My daughter and I took a private tour to the beach and then through the city with Mattia. He timed it perfectly so that we made it to the beach at sunrise and did a great job of guiding us through all of the key sites in the city. He was great with conversation and also great about making sure the pace was good for both of us. I highly recommend this to anyone looking to get a fuel for the city from the runners perspective

My sister and I had a great run with Mattia this morning 😊 what a great start to the day. Mattia was very knowledgeable about the city and as well as seeing much of this great city and it’s beautiful architecture we also learnt some interesting history from someone who clearly loves both Barcelona and running. Mattia gave us some great tips about what to see and do and where to eat (we are vegetarians). What a beautiful city and what a fantastic way to explore it. Mattia was friendly and also went at a pace that was comfortable for us. Would definitely recommend itz

Marie was amazing! We chatted the whole time, and she was very informative and gave me what felt like a full tour of the city. I feel like I know Barcelona so well now, a must if you want to get to know the city! Marie also gave me recommendations on where to shop, where to go for breakfast and where to buy wine!

I booked on this website a day before and I could not get a slot. I wrote a message and Mattia responded quickly. I finally got to run with him the following day and was worth it. I got to run and enjoy the city of Barcelona and it’s attractions. Highly recommended to anyone who is an avid runner.

    7am Sunrise Run

Had a great run around Barcelona with Marie. It was the perfect start to my trip especially after getting off a 24 hour flight. It was extremely hot and humid that day so Marie allowed plenty of stops for water when needed. Would highly recommend this Sightrunning tour as a different way to get your bearings. Not only was the run great, but Marie provided local tips for food/coffee. She really went above and beyond

Had the best time this morning running the streets of Barcelona with Mattia. Great guide…. Informative and friendly. Gave me some great local tips for travelling solo and restaurant recommendations. Pace was great and factored in water stops. Even turned into my personal photographer catching the sunrise at the beach, which he timed to perfection so that we arrived just as the sun was rising. Would 100% recommend! Thank you mattia! Sam x
