Our running tour starts with passing by Freedom Monument which has been Riga’s central landmark for around a century. We will run through the park where the Bastion Hill (Bastejkalns) is situated and the canal is passing through which makes the park for a perfect relaxing run next to the water. A bridge with hundreds of locks placed there by lovers to pledge their relations makes this place very special.
We will continue our jog reaching a park called Esplanade which dates back the 12th century as a staging point for enemies to attack the area. The mixture from different times you can see enjoying Orthodox Cathedral with its golden roofs, the Latvian Art Academy and the National Art Museum – all of them situated in the park.
The run continues in the Art Nouveau district in the quiet center of Riga, which presents the creations of the Art Nouveau (Jugendstil). Riga is a well-known Art Nouveau capital. You will enjoy that amazing part of history passing Albert Street where every building is a unique masterpiece of construction and design.
Next up we run through Kronvalda Park and reach a place called Andrew Harbor – space to sit by the water away from the hustle and bustle of the city. It is a constantly changing area. Two harbors were opened there in 19th century – Andrew’s harbor and export harbor. Now it is developed into a significant culture, art and entertainment center. And great place for watching the sunset at some cozy café …
Enjoying the fresh river breeze we cross the river Daugava and enjoy the stunning view of Old Town from the other side of the river. We return to our starting point by running back across the so called Stone Bridge and dive into Old Town with its narrow cobble-stone streets rich with buildings from different centuries – House of Blackheads, Dome Cathedral, Three Brothers … and many many more.
