Let’s embark on a tour of Berlin and discover its history. We can’t ignore the fact that in the period of 1933-1945, Germany was ruled by one of the most terrifying regimes in history, the totalitarian Third Reich. This unjust regime caused much harm, using propaganda and violence to suppress freedom and human rights. Many fought for freedom and thankfully, the regime was defeated. However, the cost of many lives was paid, and we must never forget those who fell victim to this regime.
During the tour, we’ll visit specific places related to this theme. We’ll start with the Reichstag, where Hitler came to power in 1933. The building was later rebuilt and became the home of the German parliament. We’ll also visit Bebelplatz, infamous as the site of the mass burning of “anti-German” books, and the memorial dedicated to it. We’ll see the remains of the Gestapo prison, where Nazis interrogated and executed their political opponents. We’ll visit memorials for the victims of Nazism, including Jews. We’ll also see the place of the underground bunker where Hitler shot himself at the end of World War II, the Memorial to the Soviet Army, and the Victory Column, reconstructed as part of plans to redevelop Berlin as the “Germania capital of World.”
We will also visit some other wonderful cosy corners of Berlin.
