Description
The North Half Marathon 21K run will take us through some of the main sites on the north and downtown of Bogotá. Our experience starts in the east side of El Virrey park, one of the most popular parks for runners. From the park we follow the river channel east towards the seventh avenue and we take this road almost all the way to the downtown.
While on the seventh avenue we are going to pass by the Gastronomical area called Zona G, an important banking and hotel area and the embassy sector in the north of the city. The 7th avenue is also considered to be one of the main arteries of the city and it was the first major road that the Spanish constructed to join Bogotá to its main economical resource of that time: The salt mines in Zipaquira.
Once we are close to the downtown area, we will enter the National Park as we go to the 5th avenue and pass by another one of the important gastronomical areas of the city: La Macarena. Here, we will also see La Concordia Market, famous for its food court and the fact that it was part of a Netflix episode of Street Food.
The 5th avenue will eventually lead us into la Candelaria where we will see part of the historical buildings, the government plaza and some of the Graffiti art. We will the exit the downtown as we had back to the north through El Centro Internacional, where the modern Bogotá was born at the beginning of the 1900’s.
We will then take the 24th avenue which will take us through The beautiful urban area of El Parkway, the Stadium and the main event center, The market of El 7 de Agosto, the artsy neighborhood of San Felipe and finally finishing at the western side of El Virrey Park.
