Bordeaux city center has much to offer and that’s what you’re going to discover in this condensed 8km highlights tour we’ve called The 6 Gates Tour. Why this name? Because our mission in this tour will be to run through the 6 monumental gates of the city.
Why? Because it’s the best way to see all the beauty of this South-West capital! All the gates are 300 to 500 years old. They all represent a stunning entry into the city center. They all look like triumphal arches and each of them have their own style and their own stories. Running through all of them gives you power forever!… OK, that is only my theory but still it’s always special to run under such monumental arches!
Starting from La Porte Cailleau, we will also go through the famous Water Mirror with the City of Wine in the background. We will then cross the many buildings that make Bordeaux a Unesco Heritage site with over 2000 years of history. While running from the Big Ben gate to Money gate, we we will cross the 1250m long Sainte-Catherine Street, known as the longest pedestrian street in Europe. We will also go through the 12 hectares of Quinconces Place, the biggest city square in Europe. Yes, we do have some records in Bordeaux! Here, citizens gather for huge concerts and celebrate the (regular) French wins in football.
We will also go along the moon harbour, taking the form of a half-moon, where people enjoy picnics on the lawn with street music and a glass of red-wine. You will see why Bordeaux is top-ranked as the city in France where people aim to live and work. And of course, we will discover the cathedral, the opera, the little pedestrian streets, the many fountains of the city, the public garden, which is the historical park of Bordeaux and the 17 arches of the stone bridge, which connect the left bank of the Garonne River to the right bank.
Oh wait! We only have 8kms to see all those beauties. And still a few monumental gates to run through. So let’s take our running shoes and go for a full and condensed Bordeaux experience.
