The tour begins at Kissamos Village early in the morning. Modern Kissamos or Kastelli is a town with a long and rich history. It stands on the site of ancient Kissamos, a flourishing, independent city with its own coinage and extensive trading links. Mentioned by Ptolemy as “Kissamos Polis”, it prospered particularly during the Roman and Byzantine periods.. As we reach the outskirts of the village we run on dirt road and small trails with amazing views of the Mediterranean Sea. We will run 15km in the beautifully wild and remote Gramvousa Peninsula and follow the eastern slope of Geroskinos Mountain until we reach one of the most famous beaches in the world. Balos beach and the shallow turquoise waters of the looping lagoons create magical scenery that will over-load your camera’s memory card.
There is an islet which forms part of a cape, through the lagoon, called Cape Tigani (which means “frying pan” in Greek. Swim almost alone in this paradise set and leave as soon as the first ferries arrive. We will talk about Cretan history and culture, Greek Mythology and interesting updates from the world known contemporary Greek debt crisis.
Your guide will bring enough water and traditional Greek energy snacks (pasteli or similar) After our swim we will drive you back to the meeting point with the support vehicle that will accompany us during our run.
Depending on the meeting point, the over all tour duration can take half a day, including transportation from and back to the meeting point.
