Description
Our Downtown Dallas adventure starts in front of the Omni Hotel at the original rotating Pegasus sculpture. The flying horse is a Greek mythological symbol of fame, power, and wealth. Over time, Dallasites have come to embrace this symbol as their own. Try to count how many times you see this symbol all over Dallas!
No trip to Dallas would be complete without visiting historic Dealy Plaza and the famed Sixth Floor window where JFK was shot from. But, history doesn’t stop there as we enter the historic West End district. It was once home to a bustling manufacturing district and warehouse buildings.
We then run north past the Dallas Aquarium as we approach Klyde Warren Park, which has become the city’s beloved town square. This innovative urban green space is a 5.2-acre park above a major eight-lane freeway. It serves as an essential pedestrian connection between downtown, Uptown, and the Arts District. The Arts District houses the Dallas Museum of Art and the Nasher Sculpture Museum.
Running to Deep Ellum and Farmer’s Market in Downtown Dallas
Next, we’ll continue traveling to the hip neighborhood of Deep Ellum. Deep Ellum is a lively entertainment district. Dubbed the live music capital of North Texas, it’s known for vibrant street murals, quirky bars/restaurants, and the delicious Texas BBQ. After a quick stop in Deep Ellum, we head back downtown past the Farmer’s Market, a local favorite for seasonal produce and artisanal goods.
Next up, we’ll continue to AT&T’s new Discovery District. You can see it right in front of AT&T’s new headquarters, nestled in the middle of antique and historic hotels. We then make our way to City Hall and the hidden but impactful Cattle Drive sculptures. If you’ve ever wanted to see a longhorn up close (not a real one, obviously), then you’ll have your chance! Finally, we’ll circle back to the Omni, where we started our tour.
