Description
The tour starts next to the fountain at Pile gate, one of two main entrances to the Old Town and continues through Pile bay, fort Bokar that is the most dominant fortress in the western part of the city, built in 1570, and passes below fort Lovrijenac, another monumental building, known as a historical symbol of resistance to Venetians, all the way up the stairs into the park Gradac, located above Danče monastery. The park was opened in summer 1898, and the runners will go through the park’s pathways and through a hidden wall passage to the forest exiting to the back side of the newly renovated building of the University and its courtyard.
As our running tour continues, it goes up to the viewpoint Boninovo, where runners can take in a series of breathtaking pictures, and it goes along the road above the cliffs towards the famous hotel Bellevue, located at the peak of a 30 meters high cliff above a beautiful sandy beach, where it follows the running trail to the chapel of St. Blazius, with another beautiful view of the Old Town.
Through the shade of the forest, the route goes down the road and back up to the park-forest of Velika and Mala Petka. Part of this running route follows the road, and then a running path towards the beautiful Pallace hotel, known as one of the most luxurious resort in Croatia. From there, our running tour continues towards Uvala Lapad – Sunset beach, and afterwards follows a beautiful seaside walking path with an incredible view of the islands. The walking path connects hotels, restaurants and beaches that are all enjoyed by the locals as much as the tourists.
Since Dubrovnik is very hilly this running tour might be a bit demanding when compared to other similar distance tours elsewhere. However, this running tour passes by numerous bays and beaches and will offer more than a few opportunities to take a deep breath while enjoying the view. Anyway, I will have a bus ticket ready in my pocket.
On this route there are many popular restaurants and bars, as well as a few I prefer going to, so you will be given recommendations on where to eat and drink for every day of your stay. Also, this will be a great opportunity to talk about which islands to visit, on what excursions to go, what is Rožata cake, and much more…
Julie Sapper –
This is my fourth Go Running Tour experience in Europe, and Marina, my guide was terrific. Dubrovnik is not an easy city to run in because of the hilly terrain and the crowds in the Old City. Marina managed to navigate these challenges by taking me on a route around portions of Dubrovnik that tourists don’t always see. While doing so, she shared her in depth knowledge of the complicated history of the city, the country, along with her own personal experiences. I highly recommend taking a running tour with Marina to gain a deeper understanding of this beautiful country that is so rich in history and culture. Thank you, Go Running Tours, and Marina, for another outstanding running tour experience!
