From the center of the former roman military camp the running tour leads you to Piazza Signoria and the worldwide known Uffizi Gallery as well as the Basilica of Santa Croce. After leaving the city centre that is UNESCO World Heritage, you’ll run slightly uphill by Viale Michelangelo, a nice “promenade” that leads us to the very best viewpoint of Florence.
The running tour then goes downhill by the picturesque Erta Canina, a narrow street going down back to the city centre. Runners will dive into a unique mix of art history and architecture, jumping from the medieval “tower houses” to the magnificence of Palazzo Pitti with its great facade of brown stone; from the clean design of Brunelleschi’s Renaissance church of Santo Spirito to the small golden shops hanging on Ponte Vecchio. After the history and the art another must see is the Florentine “runner’s paradise” that is the Cascine Park with its incredible forest and big lawns, but also a nice example of rationalist architecture.
The conclusion of the tour could not be more different than re-entering the city centre and seeing the masterpiece of the Brunelleschi Dome, and the Medici Family Palace. The running tour is offered in two versions the “short” one which is 21 Km (13 Miles) and the long version which is 23 Km (14.3 Miles). The longer running tour includes the open air amphitheatre and Indian Prince monument in the Cascine park. If you like to book the 23Km running tour just add two extra km during the booking process.
