Description
Hiking on a Greek island involves beautiful stone-built paths and trails. So, during the 200m of the ascent of this tour, we will enjoy some beautiful views of Andros town and the Aegean sea that surrounds it. Starting from the Andros town seaside of Nimborio, we will make our way around the villages of Ypsilou and Lamyra. Traditional local architecture is one of the highlights of this tour. We will see typical examples of the island’s stone pathways and local architecture. The two 12th century chapels we see on the way are still in service, and they represent the pre-Latin, Byzantine history of Andros. In a nutshell, you will understand the important role that land, nature, and community played in people’s lives.
After lots of twists and turns around the paths of the villages, old houses, chapels, old schools, and old shops, we will walk along the river until we reach our starting point by sea. The beautiful seaside chapel of the Virgin Mary of the Sea (Thalassini) will be our final destination.
Please bring proper hiking or trail running shoes and water as the weather can get hot, especially during summer. We’ll walk past some natural springs on the way, so refilling will not be an issue. You can always top up your walk with a cool swim at the beach where our tour ends. In any case, you can always cool down after our hike with a swim! Also, be prepared to stop for lots of pictures. You’ll love it!
