Description
Running on a Greek island inevitably involves beautiful stone-built paths and trails. So, during the 200m of vertical ascend of this Life on Andros island tour, we will be able to enjoy some beautiful views of Andros town and the Aegean sea that surrounds it. Starting from the Andros town seaside of Nimborio we will make our way around the villages of Ypsilou and Lamyra. Traditional local architecture is one of the highlights of this tour. We will see typical examples of the island’s stone pathways and local architecture. The two 12th century chapels we see on the way are still in service and they represent the pre-Latin, Byzantine history of Andros. In a nutshell, you will understand the important role that land, nature, and community played in people’s lives.
After lots of twists and turns around the paths of the villages, old houses, chapels, old schools, old shops, etc, we will reach the river bed along which we’ll run until we reach our starting point by sea. The beautiful seaside chapel of the Virgin Mary of the Sea (Thalassini) will be our final destination.
Life on Andros Island tour is a private tour so you will choose the pace that suits you. You should know however that parts of this route are uphill, so it will probably be a bit slower than usual. It would be wise to have the ability to carry some water with you especially in the summer months as it can get very hot. I any case, you can always cool down after our run with a swim! Also, be prepared to want to stop for lots of pictures. You’ll love it!
