Runner on the ground - STEPHANIE
A nice and easy run of 9km starting from Piazza Duomo, this is the central square of Milan, where we can find the Duomo, is one of the most iconic landmarks in Milan. It is a magnificent Gothic cathedral and is the largest church in Italy!
The Duomo di Milano is not only a religious site but also a symbol of Milan and an Italian cultural heritage. It is one of the most visited tourist attractions in the city and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Following through the small streets of the city, we will pass by one of the main train stations, Cadorna Station, where we can admire a beautiful sculpture dedicated to the city of fashion! It is a giant needle placed in front of the station, with a colored thread representing the three colors of the first lines of the Milan metro.
Finally, we arrive at Parco Sempione, one of the main places where people go to relax but also practice sports. Once here, there are about 3 kilometers without traffic lights or cars! This is a perfect place for runners!
We go on until we reach the Arco della Pace. Situated at the end of Parco Sempione. This monument serves as a grand entrance to the city’s historical center! The Arco della Pace symbolizes peace and harmony, serving as a commemoration of the peace established in Europe following the Congress of Vienna in 1815. The reliefs and sculptures on the arch depict scenes of peace and prosperity. Today, the Arco della Pace is not only a significant historical monument but also a popular meeting point and a backdrop for various cultural events and festivities in Milan.
After taking some beautiful photos, we continue until we reach the majestic Sforza Castle and its great fountain! It is a fascinating historical site with many intriguing aspects! The Castello Sforzesco was built in the 15th century by Francesco Sforza, Duke of Milan, on the ruins of a former fortification. It served as the residence of the ruling Sforza family and later as a military citadel and barracks. It is not only a historical landmark but also a symbol of Milan’s resilience and cultural heritage. It has played a significant role in the city’s history, serving as a seat of power, a military stronghold, and a cultural centre.
After the Castle, we head towards Teatro alla Scala, one of the most famous opera houses in the world! We continue towards Parco Intro Montanelli, close to the city centre, where we’ll pass by the Planetarium and finally, returning towards Piazza Duomo, if we’re lucky, we might catch sight of some beautiful flamingos!
To conclude, we stroll along Corso Vittorio Emanuele II, until we reach the homonymous Gallery and then Piazza Duomo.
Are you ready?! We await you in Milan!
