Description
If you always travel with your trail running shoes in your luggage, then this tour is for you. It´s a challenging run, mainly on a single track or dirt road starting from the door of your hotel.
This is a perfect tour for the end of the afternoon, so that the views are highlighted by the incredible sunset.
ROUTE:
Starting from your place we will warm up by running downtown and through a traditional neighborhood.
We will start to gently climb towards the iconic Auditorio Guelaguetza, a modern open-air theatre visible from every part of the city.
Then things begin to get serious as we start the “real” climb to the Space Observatory, where we will be rewarded with one of the best views of the city.
From there we will forget the city and continue into the forest, following a climbing trail, which may be quite technical at times, to the top of the “Fortín” hill. After catching our breath, we will follow the ridge, enjoying an open view of the 2 valleys on each side.
The great climbing trail will then lead us to a popular area of the valley, where a hard climb is awaiting us, to reach the top “Creston” hill, with its iconic white cross. This hill is a challenge for every trail runner in Oaxaca, but what a reward is to get on the top with its breathtaking 180 degrees view.
The hardest part is now done, and we are now in one of more the secluded parts of the trail where we can enjoy the surrounding nature, while we make our way towards the 3rd hill. We will then enter the local mountain bike playground and run-down single tracks until we reach the upper part of the city.
We will then run along one of the most commercial avenues, making our way downtown, where it would be my pleasure to invite you out for a drink as we end the tour.
ADDITIONAL INFO:
The tour can be shortened, at every hill I have a return route, so we can come back sooner from the “Fortín” hill (5km) or from the “Creston” hill (10km).
To really enjoy the tour, you need some experience in trail running as the climbs are steep and some parts are quite technical. We highly recommend wearing trail running shoes with good grip.
You need to bring your own water supply as there are no water stations on the route.
