Fairytale Time! This running tour starts in the city center at the Tourist office and the city hall. We start the run with heading towards the Cathedral of Odense where Hans Christian Andersen was confirmed in 1819. From the Cathedral, we move on to the fairytale garden. The running tour continues to the old part of town, where Hans Christian Andersens birthplace is among other cozy houses as well as Lotzes garden with the museum of Hans Christian Andersen.
This part of the tour takes you back to the time of Hans Christian Andersen, with the old houses from the 18. Century and the cobbled streets. Our next stop is the childhood home of Hans Christian Andersen, where we can hope the door is open, so we can have a look into the very small house of the family. Hereafter we run along the stream in wonderful green surroundings a very popular spot for runners – for about 3 km to Carlslund, which is a 150 years old restaurant, which burned to the ground a few years ago, but it has newly reopened, and been rebuilt as the original building. We can imagine the wealthy part of Odense having their dinner here in the lifetime of Hans Christian Andersen. This was not a place for the young author or his family at that time. As we run along the stream, imagine the mother of Hans Christian Andersen washing the family clothes. We might be lucky to see some of the actors from the Hans Christian Andersen summer play, imitating some of the author’s fairy tales along the stream.
On the way back to the City we pass some of the most exclusive villas in Odense, Odense ZOO and the football-pride of Odense, OB, who beat Real Madrid I UEFA cup in 1994 at Santiago Bernabeu with 2-0 and qualified to the quarterfinals. The last stop along the stream is “Munke Mose”. This is a lovely green park nearby the city Centre, where the citizens of Odense enjoy a cold beer or a snack. Back in the City Centre, we run along the mall back to city hall.
