OLD TOWN RUN TOUR - 9K
Runner on the ground - FRANCISCO
Porto is a city with many faces! This running tour will start at Porto City Hall and now it’s time to get ready for the beauties of the Old Town, incredible views, historic monuments and modern Porto.
Walking through the city center we arrive at the Torre dos Clérigos, a church in the city center, recently restored (2014), and its tower with more than 200 steps, where Nicolau Nasoni, its builder, is buried.
Then, head to Palácio de Cristal, known for its gardens, where we can find peacocks and have a breathtaking view over the Douro River, followed by a descent to the Ribeira River. Ribeira is the oldest town in Porto, where the city was born, next to the Douro River that formerly transported our famous wine from the vineyards to the cellars. In Ribeira we can admire the old bridge built in 1888 by Gustave Eiffel (yes – the tower guy in Paris), which is still in use today.
Going up, we admire the Sé, the cathedral, with an obligatory view over Porto and Gaia. After getting to know Cidade Velha, we will delve into the commercial area of Baixa, passing by the iconic Mercado do Bolhão, a building with four entrances, the oldest market in the city, focused on the production of fresh products, especially gastronomy. The vendors are divided into different specialized sections, namely: fishmongers, butchers, horticultural and floral areas, ending where we started, at the Town Hall.
This running tour is sure to make you fall in love with this beautiful and friendly city. Plus, the tour gives you a great overview of the city and will inspire you to discover much more on your own.
