Established originally as a trading town Reykjavik has developed into the Icelandic centre of culture, commerce and government activities. Reykjavík is the world’s northernmost capital and among the cleanest, greenest, and safest cities in the world. It is harder to find fresher more crisp air on a running tour and where the history of Reykjavik meets us all through the run.
This run is one of the most popular routes for runners as a part of their Saturday or Sunday run. The route is 17 km and is almost on paths all the time. This run guides you on a circular route around the older parts of Reykjavik and down by the coast.
Starting at Reykjavik´s Vesturbaejarlaug a small and friendly neighborhood geothermal heated pool, located within walking distance of the city centre, we run the beautiful route towards Nautholsvik geothermal beach (opened in 2001 and using run-off water from the hot water tanks atop Öskjuhlíð the lagoon is warmed up to a comfortable 15-19°C during summer opening hours).
On this running tour you will also experience Perlan a glass dome which is one of the top landmarks situated in the beautiful woodland Öskjuhlíð. We also run through Fossvogsdalur the busiest part of Reykjavík’s path system, full of people walking, running and cycling. We continue through Laugardalur Park which includes the main sport area in the capital, botanical garden and zoo and then we run while enjoying the beautiful landscape along the coast towards the Harpa concert-and conference hall.
On our way back you’ll run past fishing trawlers, whale-watching boats, restaurants and small shops in the old harbor area.
This running tours is truly the mix between the stunning nature of Iceland and the rich culture and everyday life of Reykjavik.
This tour is for you and we fully adapt the route to your interests and curiosities. Since this is a private tour, you will define the pace and have plenty of time to take pictures, if you wish.
