Description
Chances are that you’ve seen the stunning panoramic images of the curved Coronado bridge towering over the beautiful San Diego Bay. This picturesque pathway takes us to one of the best running routes in all of Southern California on Coronado, or “The Crowned City.” While the bridge is fun to drive over and view the San Diego Cityscape, you will likely be taking the equally scenic Ferry across the bay. It connects the easily accessible Downtown station to our sight-running tour starting point at the Coronado Island Ferry landing and Village. Your guide can meet you on either side of the bay because we’ll never turn down a Ferry ride when we get the chance.
Our full island tour offers an amazing perspective of the history and beauty of this island paradise. We’ll run through historic neighborhoods full of hand crafted turn of the century dream houses mixed amongst freshly designed modern architectural masterpieces. The naval history and island living opulence surrounds us on every peaceful tree lined block, as we share some of the most magnificent stories of island lore. Tawdry tales of old Navy Captains, the origin of the Livingston House (Baby Del) and the Spreckles Mansion murder mystery are just a few that we’ll hear about and see along the way.
We’ll run beside the massive Naval Air Station and learn about its 100 years in service as we make our way to one of California’s most inviting and lengthy strands of pristine beach. Pacific Ocean views now compliment mind blowing oceanfront homes. This calming beachside run with ocean views of historic Point Loma will take us directly to Coronado’s crown jewel, the Hotel Del Coronado…or as San Diegans call it, The Del. There are so many stories to tell and so much to see as we slow down our pace to take in the incomparable surroundings. We’ll jog back in time and peek at monuments to how travelers enjoyed Summers a century ago in Coronado’s remarkable Tent City.
We’ll continue our run beyond the Hotel Del, past the Naval Amphibious Base and take in the seaside sights of the Silver Strand, Glorietta Bay Marina, and sail boats filling the harbor with a perfect view of the Coronado Bridge from Tidelands Park. We’ll take the path built for runners and see all the things you would imagine on a Sunny San Diego island. A trip to Coronado, however, wouldn’t be complete without a jog through the bustling city streets of Downtown Coronado. Orange Avenue is the place to be for locals and tourists alike. It’s a unique blend of casual beachy shops and family owned eateries alongside some of the hippest stores and fine dining cuisine around.
Coronado Brewing Company is also a staple on Orange Ave. and is always an inviting place to stop late on our tour for a quick tasting before we finish. Please plan ahead with your guide if you are interested in this excursion.
This is truly one of the most unique and interesting running tour destinations around. It’s such an exciting and inspiring feeling to conquer all of Coronado and then tear off your running shoes and dig your feet in the sand at the most perfect little beach park back at the Ferry Landing. We’ll take a deep breath and relax as we take in the whole Sun Diego Skyline and relish in the awesome adventure we just completed.
