Runner on the ground - NIKOLINA

10 years of running

“Split would not be half the city that it is, without Marjan” according to the locals. The beautiful Marjan Forest Park is a small hill very close to the city centre where local people run, skate, ride a bike and simply enjoy long walks. Marjan is a place where us local runners enjoy every step while the sun is trying to break through the pine trees on this hill surrounded by the city, sea and islands. The fresh air keeps you alert with its mixture of Mediterranean sea and pines. And why do I write about a forest, when this is a Must See tour? Because Marjan is truly a Must See in Split and the perfect compliment to Split’s many sights. Now let’s dive into the running tour.

This running tour shows all the Must See’s in Split and includes running through the city centre, where we will meet by the Bajamont fountain built in 1880 which is also the beginning of the Split Riva. Split Riva is the city’s most popular and most important public space or more precisely, Riva is the living room of the local population. We continue through the city centre and Diocletian’s palace and after a while we leave the old town and start with “the“ place by passing Villa Dalmatia and going uphill towards the Marjan Forest Park. On the way to the Park, the running tour passes by numerous Mediterranean houses, cliffs overlooking the islands, beach Kašjuni as well as the St Jere church (in my opinion more beautiful than the one in the Mamma Mia movie) from which it continues to the peak of Marjan. The stunning view will give you a unique opportunity to see the surrounding islands of Brač and Šolta to the South, the entire Split city to the East, and mountains Mosor, Kozjak and Biokovo to the North-East.

As the tour comes to an end, we start our descent via the Marjan steps, passing by Split Zoo and the Church of St. Nicholas towards the city centre. On the way we pass by the old Hajduk Split stadium, called Stari plac by locals, and by one of the oldest barbecue restaurant in Split (you should try their specialty – ćevapi)

On this route there are many popular restaurants and bars, as well as a few gastronomic hidden gems, i.e. highly recommended places to eat and drink, so you will have plenty of recommendations on how and where to reload with energy.

Nikolina was a fantastic guide to beautiful Split.
She met meon time at my apartment. She took lots of great photos. She was kind enough to run at my slow pace. The route was hilly and very hot even at 630am.
But it was so beautiful and Nikolina was very interesting to talk to about Split, Croatia, sport and her amazing running.
Super safe, just perfect guided run. Highly recommend this way to see Split.

Had a great run with Nata! She was a great guide and took me on an awesome route with beautiful views of the city!
The whole process from booking to pick up was also very easy and organized. I appreciated my guide accommodating a slightly longer run too! Highly recommend!

Don’t miss this run with Nikolina while you are in Split!!!!

This run was so awesome!!!!! Nikolina picked me up at my hotel right on time. I was not ready b/c I had booked the reservation so long before that I was not sure if it was still a go. She was so sweet to wait on me while I flew out of bed and got dressed to meet her! She was just great!! So kind and I learned so much about Split and saw the true beauty of the city. I think that if I would not have done this run that I would not have appreciated Split as much. It was also fun b/c Nike seems to know pretty much everyone in Split and it was fun saying hi to a lot of the local athletes that were out training at the same time as our run. A note on the run —— it is HARD!!!!!😂 I did the 13K and, I swear, I think about 4 miles were uphill. I am a decent runner and normally run 5-6 miles at high altitude, so I thought I would be ok. I had been traveling the coast for 7 days prior and definitely out of my normal workout routine, but I think it would have been hard anyway! Nike was so sweet, though —-she did not mind walking with me the last 1 mile up the hill. Downhill never felt so good!!!!😂. Keep in mind there is a shorter version so unless you are a very strong runner, I would recommend the shorter one. This was my 3rd run with Go Running Tours and I just LOVE them!!!!! I can’t recommend them enough.

    Awsome run with Natasa

    Gavin & Lesley

Booking was super easy – the team were quick to respond and were happy to be flexible with the start time and location. Natasa was already waiting outside reception for us at the start time – and then we were off. Really enjoyed running through the deserted streets in the morning, then earning a nice big breakfast by getting to the summit of the Marjan hill. Natasa was fun company, a good guide, gave some interesting personal background to life in Split, and was our own personal paparazzi for the morning. She’s an amazing runner and just crazy fit, but was more than happy to run at our less-than-athletic pace. She also accompanied us back to the hotel, even though this took us up to about 17km in total. Loved it.

I really enjoyed my 13k with Nate! The run gave me a great feel for the city and I really enjoyed learning more about Nate. She is an awesome athlete and was very kind! She took a lot of fun photos of me/us during the run. Additionally, she was very communicative before and after. I highly recommend this run 🙂

    Fun Run with Nikolina

    Jeanne Bayers

I had such a lovely morning with Nike on our tour through Split. She was very nice and obviously a very good runner! It was fun to hear about certain spots in Split and learn the history of the Palace. It was also nice to just chat with her about running, Croatia and life in general! I would highly recommend touring with her if you want to run while in Split.
