Description
The Toronto Taste of East City running tour will begin at the Toronto City Hall, which houses the municipal government of Toronto and is one of the most characteristic landmarks in the city. Not least because of the famous Toronto ‘Pan Am’ sign right in front of it. A ‘photo must’ for anyone new to the city!
From our start point, we’ll head south to Union Station, one of the busiest transportation hubs in the city, and a big part of Toronto’s history that dates back to 1858. No tour of Toronto would be complete without passing by the CN Tower and some of Toronto’s biggest sports venues en route to the waterfront. As we go, we’ll discover how the waterfront changed as Toronto expanded, such as the filling of much of the original harbor in the 1920s to create the city south of Union Station. Just before we turn north, we’ll visit some of the newest developments on the East Bayfront and see the Portlands from across the water.
Next, on this Toronto Taste of East City Tour, we’ll head towards St Lawrence Market and the Distillery District. These makeup part of the historic district of Toronto, as you can see by the red brick factory style architecture. The distillery, founded in 1832, at the time was the largest distillery in the world. Nearby is the historic St. Lawrence Market, home to over 120 vendors, merchants, and artisans. We’ll end our run-up Yonge Street, once dubbed the longest street in the world and even its construction was seen as an event of national historic significance as it joined Toronto to upper Ontario and paved the way for further development.
