Description
Most people come to Amsterdam for the Medieval Centre and the famous Canal Belt. But there is another absolutely spectacular side to Amsterdam just a few strides outside the busy old town.
This running tour off the beaten track will show you urban life, world-class architecture, amazing views, and some of the best-kept secrets of Amsterdam. The tour also gives you an insight into maritime history, Amsterdam’s main reason for its existence.
From the majestic Central Station the run will lead us to the Museum Harbor with its antique ships. Following east we explore the former docklands, harbors and warehouses that have been transformed into new and spectacular living and working spaces. This region, hosting the KNSM and Java island, is renowned for its architecture and definitely a highlight for anybody interested in modern architecture and city development. After a scenic ferry crossing over the river IJ, we will run the boardwalk, or the sunny side of Amsterdam. The “north” side of the capital of the Netherlands, 10 years ago neglected by tourists and locals alike, is now “the place to be” and a hot spot for cultural life. It’s also a great place to see how locals live (and party). We will explore the iconic EYE film institute and countless other architectural pearls.
The run is full of surprises, picture and Wow moments. Most of the time our tour will only be a few steps from the water, spoiling us constantly with scenic views.
We will spend in total about 25 minutes on ferries. Depending on the weather you may want to bring something to keep you warm during the crossings / when not running.
