In this 14km tour we will discover some of the ancient gates of Milan City such as Porta Volta, Porta Garibaldi, Porta Nuova, Porta Venezia and finally Porta Ticinese!

Starting from Piazza Duomo and passing by the beautiful Arco della Pace, we will reach the Chinatown of Milan and finally the first gate, Porta Volta.

Porta Volta is situated in the northwestern part of Milan and it was originally built in the 19th century as part of the city’s system of gates and walls.

Afterward, we will pass by Porta Garibaldi and Piazza Gae Aulenti, a new and modern neighborhood in the city of Milan!

Heading to Porta Venezia, we will see Porta Nuova, built in the 19th century, it replaced an older gate and became one of the city’s main entrances. It is renowned for its neoclassical design and is situated near the bustling Corso Como area.

Finally arrived at Porta Venezia, it is one of the most iconic and historically significant gates in Milan, it is located in the northeastern part of the city, it is named after the road that led to the city of Venice. In this area of the city, we can find a big boulevard with many different stores, coffee shops, Gelaterie, etc.

After visiting these gates, we will return to Piazza Duomo, passing through Corso Vittorio Emanuele II and heading to the last gate called Porta Ticinese. This part of Milan has also been renovated and now it’s a common meeting place for people of all ages. It’s a highly frequented area for lovers of Milanese happy hours!

After visiting this area, we start going back to Piazza Duomo passing by one of Milan’s most prestigious universities, Cattolica University, and the Church of Sant’Ambrogio, the city’s patron saint.

The gates of Milan city not only served as defensive structures but also influenced the city’s layout and growth over time. Today, while many of the original gates have been demolished or modified, their historical significance is preserved in Milan’s urban landscape and cultural memory.
