THE CHURCHES OF MILANO - 15K

Runner on the ground - RANIERO
Being so driven by business, glitter, events, money and frantic working life, Milan may seem (and sometimes is!) a soulless town. Where cash is king, and little or no room is left for reflection, self being (yoga and mindfulness not included lol) or simply to enjoy little moments of peace and silent recollection.
…but this could not be more wrong, and wealth is not the sole religion pervading this town! Although far from cities like Rome, Milan hosts some of Italy’s most famous worship places, starting from the Duomo (Italy’s biggest church…St. Peter is in fact in the Vatican City, so in theory it’s another State…). But besides this, there is much, much more to enrich your spirit, even during a running session. So let’s find it out!
We leave the central Duomo Square and move along Via Torino, one of Milano’s busiest shopping streets, and after checking out at the Chiesa di S. Maria presso S. Satiro, the Tempio Civico di San Sebastiano, and the Chiesa di S. Alessandro in Zebedia with the nearby Palazzo Archinto, we will make a quick bend and dive into Via di Porta Ticinese.
Our journey towards Milano’s most featured churches will include places like the Basilica of San Lorenzo Maggiore, with its superfamous Colonne and the related Parco delle Basiliche.
After crossing Molino delle Armi, we will keep going and slide by another massive church, the Basilica of Sant’ Eustorgio, and after walking through Porta Ticinese, the Darsena, the Naviglio Pavese and the Naviglio Grande will pop up in front of us! We will then direct our ride on the Naviglio Grande, and its paved road, and after a quick visit to Vico Lavandai, we will turn back after the Chiesa of San Cristoforo Sul Naviglio.
After regaining our track back to Via Conca del Naviglio and Via Arena (where Milano’s Coliseum was located), it’s now time to admire maybe the two most famous holy sites of Milano: the Basilica of Sant’Ambrogio (or Sant’ Ambroeus for the Milanese…), Milan’s holy protector, and the worldwide acclaimed Basilica di Santa Maria delle Grazie, in the super upscale Magenta district where the Da Vinci’s Last Supper is hosted!
Once there, we will move our feet to the former Roman Imperial Palace at Via Brisa, the Italian Stock Exchange Building at Palazzo Mezzanotte, and the Middle-Aged Piazza dei Mercanti, before moving towards Castello Sforzesco, Brera with its Chiesa del Carmine and its worldwide acclaimed Pinacoteca (Art Gallery) and Teatro alla Scala, Milano’s opera house! After strolling through the Clubino, we will ride through the luxury boutiques of Via Montenapoleone towards Via Manzoni. After a quick look at the Giardini Pubblici and the Pink Flamingos of Via Cappuccini, we will whisper our wishes to the bronze ear at Ca De l’Oreggia, before regaining Corso Venezia to finally stop at San Babila’s Church, and again to Duomo Square.
