Coconut Grove has long been a vibrant hub for artists, musicians, and intellectuals. Established in the late 1800s, the neighborhood’s evolution was heavily shaped by the Bahamian settlers who arrived in the mid-19th century. These immigrants from the Bahamas, known for their maritime skills and deep ties to the Caribbean, were among the first to establish the community. They built the neighborhood’s earliest homes, which were often constructed in the Bahamian style—raised, wooden houses designed to withstand the region’s tropical storms. Their influence extended beyond architecture, also shaping the cultural and social fabric of the Grove.

This neighborhood is known for the peacocks that roam the parks and streets, and in their honor, you can find several peacock sculptures decorated by local artists. Peacocks were not native to Coconut Grove. The birds are believed to have been introduced to the area in the early 20th century, possibly by wealthy residents who brought them over as ornamental pets. Over time, they escaped and established a thriving population in the neighborhood.

As we run through the Grove, we will visit Peacock Park, the heart of the neighborhood, where local art, music, and festivals bring the community together. From here, we can follow our path along tree-lined streets filled with charming boutiques and fine dining spots. We will pass by The Barnacle Historic State Park, one of Miami’s oldest structures, built in 1891 by the Grove’s first settlers.

The ocean landscape of Coconut Grove is one of the main attractions of this neighborhood. Situated along the coastline, it offers stunning views of Biscayne Bay, with its calm, crystal-clear waters stretching out to the horizon and bathed in the beautiful Miami sunshine. Whether we’re running through Kennedy Park or strolling along the docks near Peacock Park, we will always enjoy relaxing running by the water, soaking in the warm rays and serene atmosphere.

You will be delighted by the run through Coconut Grove, where you can feel the history, experience the art, or simply enjoy the beautiful surroundings. Coconut Grove offers an experience unlike any other in Miami.
