Austin is the state capital and the fourth-most populous city in Texas. Located in the center of the state, Austin has both scenic and natural views and the hustle and bustle of big city life. Our unofficial but much loved motto is “keep Austin weird”, we even have a museum dedicated to “junk”! And for running, we have 300 days of sunshine per year!
Artistically and athletically, Austin holds it’s own in the movies, music, sports entertainment and technology industries. Best exemplified by these events; ACL – Austin City Limits – a 6 day music festival, Austin is known as the live music capital of the world. SXSW – South by South West – the global benchmark technological conference that encompasses music, art, digital, movies and even an education component! The Austin Grand Prix and the Longhorn Ironman are just 2 more icons, and of course, Lance Armstrong’s “Mellow Johnny’s” cycling cafe heralds an infamous connection to the Tour De France. Austin is home to the largest University (by student population) in the USA, The Texas Longhorns football stadium holds 100,000 spectators. The edgier parts of town are known for impressive graffiti and food trailer deliciousness! Austin has the largest urban bat colony in North America and the only nude beach in all of Texas, aptly named Hippie Hollow. The Texas State Capitol building is the second largest capitol building. Who is the first? Come on my run and I’ll tell you! These are just a few fun facts that make Austin a wonderful place to explore on foot.
