With the Potomac and Anacostia Rivers framing the city to the south and flowing tributaries connecting wooded parks to local neighborhoods to the north, DC is a city waiting to be run and explored! Annually, our nation’s capital is ranked as one of the fittest cities in the country, and with large urban parks, running trails following flowing rivers and landscaped parks featuring historic monuments, no wonder DC residents like to stay so active!

On display downtown, you will find the Smithsonian museums. The nationally funded institution brings together a collection of art throughout the ages, space travel starting from the inception of flight and a rich history of cultures across centuries. The two mile long National Mall was created as an egalitarian space for the people, reflecting the democracy the institutions around it are built to uphold. Over two centuries after Pierre L’Enfant, the military engineer who laid the design for once monikered ‘Grand Avenue,’ the National Mall still serves as the centerpiece to our nation’s capital, attracting over 20 million visitors annually. The crushed stone paths outlining the groomed fields of the Grande Avenue are the perfect place to run; several of our tours visit all the Neoclassical pillars of the city, including the Capitol Building, Washington Monument and White House.

Our city boasts many free museums, including the National Zoo, a 163-acre space providing habitats for hundreds of different species. The National Zoo being nestled against the city’s largest park, Rock Creek, offers us the opportunity to visit both destinations on our most adventurous 22K tour that connects many gems of the city.

Or, take a shorter tour and join me in exploring the diverse neighborhoods that serve as the canvases for our mural art tour. The murals on U St share the history of a neighborhood once known as ‘Black Broadway,’ a focal point for African American culture, where Billie Holiday and Zora Neale Hurston resided and performed. Today, this area thrives with the spirits of the legends who fought for equity with their lyrical prose and virtuoso improvisation, anchoring a glamourous rebellion. As the birthplace of Duke Ellington and modern Go-Go, the city’s pulse beats with percussive syncopation.

So, visit our city for the sights and history, art and leisure, libations and gastronomy, but pack your running shoes so we can take in the city for a whole new adventure!
