BOSTON TWO BRIDGES AND TWO PARKS - 10K

Runner on the ground - BRIAN

The Two Bridges Two Parks Tour is a 10K running experience that highlights Boston’s vibrant mix of history, innovation, urban landscapes, and green spaces. Starting and ending at the iconic Christian Science Plaza, this route weaves through Boston and Cambridge, connecting two historic bridges and two serene parks, all while offering stunning views and a unique perspective of the city. The run begins in front of the Christian Science Plaza, a tranquil space defined by its dramatic reflecting pool, fountains, and the impressive dome of the Mother Church. This serene starting point is perfect for setting the tone of the tour, balancing unique architecture with peaceful surroundings. From here, runners make their way to the Harvard Bridge, the first of two crossings over the Charles River. Known for its quirky “smoot” measurements, the bridge offers sweeping views of the river, framed by the Boston skyline and rowing crews gliding through the water below. The bridge connects Boston and Cambridge, to cities that complement each other in many aspects.

Once in Cambridge, the route takes runners through the MIT campus, home to some of the world’s brightest minds. Highlights include the calm and contemplative MIT Chapel and the Kresge Oval, where green spaces balance the campus’s cutting-edge modern feel. Nearby, the bold and unconventional Stata Center showcases the innovative spirit of MIT, with its whimsical, futuristic design perfectly capturing the creativity and progress of this academic hub. The run loops back toward Boston via the Longfellow Bridge, affectionately known as the “Salt and Pepper Bridge” for its iconic towers. This bridge provides another breathtaking crossing of the Charles River, offering panoramic views of both the Boston and Cambridge skylines. As you re-enter the city, you’ll feel the energy of Boston’s historic streets welcoming you back.

The next stop is City Hall Plaza, a civic landmark that anchors Boston’s downtown. With its Brutalist architecture and open plaza, this site is a modern contrast to the historical charm of other parts of the city, reflecting Boston’s evolving identity. From here, the route flows into the lush greenery of the Commonwealth Avenue Mall, a tree-lined promenade in the heart of Back Bay. This peaceful stretch, dotted with statues and shaded pathways, offers a moment of tranquility amidst the urban bustle, embodying the “parks” theme of the tour. Finally, the tour ends back at the Christian Science Plaza, where runners can cool down and take in the serene beauty of the plaza’s reflective pool. The combination of historic architecture, thoughtful urban design, and peaceful ambiance serves as the perfect finale to this journey. Nearby is the Prudential building, with a multitude of food options for a post-run meal.
