Join us for the “Tick-Tock Runventure: TST Clock Tower to Kai Tak!”—an invigorating running tour that takes you from the iconic Tsim Sha Tsui (TST) Clock Tower to the revitalized Kai Tak district. This isn’t just a run; it’s a journey through time and transformation!

Start at the TST Clock Tower
Our runventure begins at the iconic TST Clock Tower, a beloved landmark that dates back to 1915. This historic structure was once part of the Kowloon-Canton Railway, which has since moved to Hung Hom. To start off the tour, I’ll share fascinating stories about its significance in Hong Kong’s maritime history and how it stood as a beacon of hope during the colonial era.

Breathtaking Waterfront Views
As we hit the pavement, we’ll run along the picturesque Victoria Harbour promenade. Here, you’ll enjoy breathtaking views of the skyline (Hong Kong Island side), including the towering International Finance Centre; Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre and the lush green hills going up to The Peak. Did you know that the vast majority of the ground we’re standing on now is from reclaimed land? Feel the energy of the city as we pass by ferries and boats gliding over the sparkling waters. If we’re lucky, we might catch a glimpse of the iconic “Dukling” which is a traditional Chinese red-sailboat formerly used for fishing activities.

Cultural Landmarks Along the Way
Our route also takes us past several cultural landmarks, including the Hong Kong Cultural Centre; Hong Kong Space Museum (with a dome shaped like an egg) and the Avenue of Stars. Along the way, I’ll be introducing you to Bruce Lee (i.e., a statue) whose films you might be familiar with. This area is not just a feast for the eyes; it’s a celebration of the arts and culture that define our city.

Transition to Kai Tak
As we approach Kai Tak, you’ll witness a remarkable transformation. Once home to Hong Kong’s airport, known for its challenging landings (due to the buildings within the vicinity of the landing strip), the district has since been re-developed to house a vibrant community filled with parks, residential complexes, and commercial spaces. This redevelopment is a testament to Hong Kong’s innovative spirit and resilience. Did you know that the Kai Tak Runway Park was built on the former runway? It’s a perfect spot to catch your breath and soak in the views!

Kai Tak Sports Park & Arena

Also, we will run past the new Kai Tak Arena. In fact, two inaugural major events were hosted in this very venue namely the Hong Kong Rugby Sevens as well as the HK Leg of Coldplay’s “Music of the Spheres World Tour”. This elevates Hong Kong’s presence in the international stage for the endless possibilities of hosting major events like these in the future.
