KEEP AUSTIN WEIRD MURAL TOUR - 12K

Runner on the ground - MICHAELA

Experience the creative spirit of Austin on foot with our 12 km Mural Running Tour, a vibrant journey through some of the city’s most beloved and photo-worthy public artworks. Perfect for runners, art lovers, and visitors looking for a unique way to explore Austin’s quirky, colorful, and artistic side, this tour offers an energizing combination of movement, storytelling, and street art discovery.

We kick things off at the powerful Women Vote mural—a bold, large-scale tribute to the legacy of women’s suffrage and civic leadership in Texas. Its striking colors and empowering message set the tone for a tour that celebrates expression in all forms.

Next, we cruise over to the I Love You So Much mural on South Congress. Scribbled in lipstick on the side of Jo’s Coffee, this spontaneous love note has become one of Austin’s most recognized and photographed spots. It’s heartfelt, iconic, and a perfect selfie stop.

From there, we make our way to the playful Willie for President mural. This cheeky fan-favorite captures Austin’s deep love for hometown legend Willie Nelson and its signature sense of humor about identity, politics, and pop culture.

Our route continues to the retro Greetings from Austin mural, a giant postcard-style artwork that celebrates the city’s history, neighborhoods, and unmistakable charm. It’s a must-see for anyone wanting to take home a slice of Austin.

Next, we will run up historic South Congress avenue towards the Texas Capitol building, where we will stop to view the Generational Ties mural, which features two Indigenous women with intertwined braids, symbolizing the transmission of wisdom and beauty across generations.

Then, we pause at the Hi, How Are You mural, created by musician and outsider artist Daniel Johnston. Featuring his frog-like character, Jeremiah the Innocent, this mural is both a beloved local landmark and a symbol of artistic individuality and mental health awareness.

This tour is an artistic celebration of Austin’s street-level soul. From political art to quirky creatures, each mural reflects the “Keep Austin Weird” spirit: a love of self-expression, inclusivity, and joyful individuality. Come ready to sweat, smile, and see Austin through a whole new lens!
