MADRID "RUNNING IN RETIRO" - 10 KM
Runner on the ground - PHILIP
The Retiro Park in Madrid is undoubtedly one of the the most popular places to run in Madrid. Although there is no ocean to look at or smell, “Parque de El Retiro” as it is called in Madrid attracts runners by the thousand on a daily basis from the time the gates open at 06h00 until they close again at midnight (in the summer months). The park offers a 5km track by running around the perimeter, as well as many other variations in and around the park itself. Some of the magnificent sites that you’ll be able to pass include a huge man-made lake where you may see rowers practising their rowing skills before heading off to work. There is also a barge that circles the lake. The Crystal Palace is another “must see” in the park. It is made of metal and glass and is used mainly for art exhibitions nowadays. There is also an incredible rose garden which has over 4000 rose bushes. The tree-lined avenues in the park are incredibly special for running through, and for this reason I always refer to it as “Retiro Park Therapy”. These are just a few of the highlights in the park, but there are many more. An experience not to be missed and a pleasant escape from the busy city!
