Runner on the ground - NINAD

Experience the magic of Mumbai at sunrise on this 6-kilometre guided running tour through the city’s most iconic neighbourhoods and landmarks. Beginning and ending at the magnificent Mumbai General Post Office (GPO), this circular route takes you through the beating heart of South Mumbai, showcasing its historic architecture, vibrant streets, and cultural treasures — all before the city fully wakes up.

This tour is perfect for travelers, history lovers, and runners who want to explore the best of Mumbai — from grand colonial facades to bustling boulevards and hidden alleyways. Along the way, you’ll pass legendary sights such as the Gateway of India, Colaba Causeway, the Asiatic Library, Horniman Circle, and the celebrated Kala Ghoda art district. Each stop has a story to tell — some we’ll share with you as we run, others you’ll discover for yourself.

As we move through Ballard Estate, you’ll feel the European charm of Mumbai’s early 20th-century commercial quarter. Wide avenues and stately neoclassical buildings create a calm, elegant atmosphere that’s ideal for an early morning jog. From here, we weave past the white steps of the Asiatic Library, circle Horniman Circle Gardens, and head south toward the iconic Gateway of India, where the city meets the Arabian Sea.

The run continues through the buzzing Colaba Causeway, a street lined with colourful shops, cafés, and colonial-era buildings. We enter Kala Ghoda, home to galleries, public art, and Mumbai’s vibrant creative spirit, before passing the historic Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya (CSMVS Museum) and the sprawling Oval Maidan, where locals play cricket against a backdrop of Gothic towers and palm trees.

You’ll also glimpse the stunning Mumbai University and Rajabai Clock Tower, reminders of the city’s educational and architectural legacy. The route continues past Flora Fountain, a symbolic crossroads of old Bombay, and along DN Road, often referred to as Mumbai’s Heritage Mile, lined with British-era buildings and colonial-era charm.

Just before we end, we run by the legendary Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) — Mumbai’s most photographed railway station and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This Victorian Gothic masterpiece is the crown jewel of the city’s rail network, and a fitting finale before returning to where we began: the grand Mumbai GPO.

This is more than just a run — it’s a unique way to explore Mumbai’s top attractions, from historic landmarks to hidden corners, with a passionate local runner by your side. Whether you’re a visitor looking to connect with the city or a Mumbaikar rediscovering your own streets, this running tour delivers a one-of-a-kind experience of South Mumbai’s heritage, architecture, and soul.
