BUDAPEST LONG CITY RUN - 21K

Runner on the ground - ZORA
Embark on an unforgettable 21 kilometer running adventure that begins at Deák Ferenc Square, the vibrant heart of Budapest. As the city awakens, your path takes you past the glittering storefronts of Andrássy Avenue, a UNESCO World Heritage site, where the Neo-Renaissance facade of the Hungarian State Opera House signals the grandeur ahead.
Continuing along Andrássy street, the route crescendos at Heroes’ Square, home to the iconic Millennium Monument, flanked by the Museum of Fine Arts and Műcsarnok. This awe-inspiring plaza, honouring Hungary’s national leaders, is a dramatic stage for your strides, set against a backdrop of national pride.
You then enter City Park, gliding past the steaming domes of the Széchenyi Thermal Baths, one of Europe’s largest and most renowned spa complexes. The tree-lined Kós Károly Promenade leads you to the fairy-tale towers of Vajdahunyad Castle, rising above the lake—an eclectic masterpiece blending Gothic, Baroque, and Romanesque styles.
Running along the promenades of the park, you’ll pass the award-winning House of Music Hungary, a futuristic architectural wonder, and the sleek glass curves of the Ethnographic Museum. Turning down Városligeti fasor, you’ll find yourself on one of Budapest’s most elegant boulevard, lined with stately villas, churches and century old sycamore trees.
From there, continue through the quiet charm of Rózsák tere (Church of Our Lady of the Snows), then down the bustling Dohány Street to the majestic Dohány Street Synagogue—the largest in Europe. Passing toward Kálvin Square you’ll see the Hungarian National Museum and its beautiful garden before crossing the elegant Szabadság Bridge, where sweeping views of Gellért Hill and the Danube reward your efforts.
Reaching Szent Gellért Square, passing the Gellért Thermal Bath you ascend slightly toward Clark Ádám Square, gateway to the Buda Castle Tunnel. Following the Danube, the run takes you to Batthyány Square, where the Parliament glimmers across the river. Crossing Margaret Bridge, you arrive on Margaret Island—a runner’s paradise in the heart of the Danube, where shaded paths, fountains, and medieval ruins create a tranquil contrast to the city’s lively tempo.
After running a loop around the island, embraced by nature and serenity. Then re-crossing Margaret Bridge, the last stretch begins: Jászai Mari Square and the nearby statue of Imre Nagy, quietly watching over the Parliament from a small footbridge.
Passing through the leafy Olympics Park and the imposing Budapest’s most iconic building- the House of Parliament, you continue to Liberty Square, surrounded by architectural gems and historical monuments. The route concludes with a flourish at St. Stephen’s Basilica, Erzsébet Square, and finally back to Deák Ferenc Square—where modern Budapest pulses at your feet.
Each stride of this tour offers a rich mosaic of Budapest’s imperial past, cultural depth, and vibrant present—a truly immersive running journey through one of Europe’s most captivating capitals.
