MELBOURNE CLASSIC CITY TOUR - 8K
Runner on the ground - ANDREW
What a cracking tour of Melbourne this is.
We’ll begin in Federation Square, the very centre of the city. What a start! On these four corners are major landmarks of Melbourne – Flinders Street Station, St Paul’s Cathedral, Young & Jackson’s Hotel and ‘Fed Square’. (I’ll tell you how I sang in one, met ‘Chloe’ at one and paced Melbourne’s Half Marathon in another!)
Then we’re off and straight through Birrarung Marr – a beautiful and historically important part of the city that connects us with our wonderful indigenous history.
From there it’s not too far to the sports precinct. We’ll definitely get the cameras out here! We have the Melbourne Cricket Ground (home of AFL and cricket), the Tennis Centre (home of the Australian Open), as well as AAMI Park, Olympic Park and more. There’s many stories of Olympic and Commonwealth Games glory to be shared here (plus I’ll show you where we used to sneak into the MCG and kick the football on the ground!)
Next we will cruise alongside the Yarra River and enjoy the rowers and other runners.
There’s a lot of running history here to be shared as we head onto the famous ‘Tan’ running track and then into the Botanical Gardens. Think you can run ‘The Tan’ faster than the current holder Craig Mottram in 10:08?!
We’ll get the best view of the city from the Shrine of Remembrance (a definite photo spot and we’ll do our own ‘Rocky’ impersonations!) and then we’ll head back through the Arts Precinct and back to our starting point.
Get your running shoes ready and get ready for a laugh and a great time!
Anna Rosenfeld –
We ran with Andrew and his wife Debbie on our honeymoon in Melbourne, and we can’t say enough good things. They were so generous with their time, showing us all around the city and even tacking on a few extra km onto the run. We were able to see tons of the city in a short amount of time, and learned so much about Melbourne’s past and present. You won’t be disappointed!
