MONTREAL CITY & OLD PORT - 6K
Runner on the ground - ALAN
If you are looking to know more about Montreal while getting a great flavor of the older European history nestled in a cosmopolitan North American city center, this Montreal City & Old Port tour is the run for you.
You’ll pass by a surprising number of old churches including our own Notre Dame Cathedral and hear some of the histories of the French founders. How De Maisonneuve founded the stockade of Ville-Marie in 1642 and defended it from the Iroquois natives. The English colonists wanted to control Canada for its lucrative fur trade. Monuments and historical buildings that we will pass by will tell a real-life “Game of Thrones” story where the English eventually took control by force in 1760 but could never really fully possess the city with a French heart.
On this Montreal City & Old port tour, we’ll also take in some of the tourist areas of the Old Port and show you some great museums, attractions, and restaurants that you might want to come back to later, including the Pointe-à-Callière museum of ancient Montreal and Chateau Ramezay, the first governor’s residence from 1705. Ports of course means ships, smuggling, and pirates! Stories abound me heartys!
In addition, we will visit a few of the more recently added sculptures and parks with their own stories. One is a gift from Paris, France.
Lisa Burnham –
This is my fourth city that I have done a GoRunning Tour and they just keep impressing me. Loved running with Alan, he was fun, shared history of the city just like the tour described – however Alan did one more as I told him I was nursing a nagging hamstring – he was motivating regarding running – shared his running experiences and gave great advice I won’t soon forget. Next time Murals tour with Alan in Montreal!
