MURALS OF MONTREAL PLATEAU - 10K
Runner on the ground - ALAN
Get ready for the edgy, colourful and arty side of Montreal!
From the McGill University gates (or your city hotel) we will take a short trip along Sherbrooke to Montreals trendy plateau region. Each year Montreal has a Mural Festival, and this results in many new works all over the city. Several of the contemporary art galleries are based around the student-friendly St Laurent street area and this is where the murals and street graffiti are the most prolific.
Our Murals of Montreal Plateau trip will include several international commissions from the Montreal Mural Festival and others from local and unknown artists. This includes a 10 storey portrait of local singing legend Leonard Cohen by local artist Kevin Ledo; some pink hippopotamus sculptures to honor the creativity and eccentricity of Joseph-Édouard Guilbault, creator of Montreals first botanic gardens; baseball legend Jackie Robinson captured by local artist Fluke and famous Portuguese singer Amalia Rodrigues immortalized by Paulo Carreira in the Portuguese sector.
On the way back we will take in a section of the Mount Royal Park. We will pass the statue of George-Etienne Cartier one of the founders of modern Canada; past the Percival Molson Stadium home of CFL football team Montreal Alouettes and back through the historic campus of McGill University, home of 5 Nobel laureates.
