OAXACA TRADITIONAL NEIGHBORHOODS TOUR – 10K
Runner on the ground - MANUEL
We will visit the neighborhoods of Jalatlaco and Xochimilco, where its inhabitants show how the customs are in Oaxaca. You will be able to observe their way of life and the beauty of their buildings and streets.
We will visit the Jalatlaco neighborhood, a place where families traditionally work in leather tannery, mainly cattle. This neighborhood is also full of places to enjoy rich breakfasts, delicious coffees and artisan bread.
We will be touring the Santo Tomás Xochimilco neighborhood, and get to know one of the oldest neighborhoods in the city of Oaxaca, where the textile activity was the source of the economy of the families from that zone. You will be able to observe vestiges of what was the aqueduct that carried water to the city of Oaxaca in its origins, said aqueduct had a route from San Felipe del Agua and reached the Church of Carmen Alto.
We will also stop by the Parish of San Matías Jalatlaco which dates from the 16th century and offers a sample of the architecture of the colonial era. Be camera ready at La Cruz de Piedra, which is a meeting point for walkers and a perfect place for a souvenir photo.

Manuel was a great guide and offered a fun way to the see Oaxaca. We completed a 10k loop and saw some neighborhoods that I did not know about before visiting Oaxaca. He also provided some tour and food recommendations which were appreciated. If you are a runner and want to learn about the city from a local, this is a great tour.

A great way to see more of Oaxaca’s neighbourhoods! Manuel was informative and kept a good running pace too.
