PLITVICE LAKES KOZJAK TRAIL RUN – 9 KM
Runner on the ground - LEO
Our shortest running tour goes around Kozjak Lake (Jezero Kozjak), the last and lowest of the so called ‘upper’ lakes, located at an altitude of 534 meters above sea level. It is also the largest and deepest lake in the whole lake system. It covers a total area of 82 hectares with a maximum depth of 48 meters. The length of the lake is 2,35 kilometres, while the width is between 135 and 670. The area around Kozjak Lake is also our training ground, a ground our guests kind of envy us for. Compared to the ‘lower’ lakes that are the most popular part of the park, we find this area more attractive and more suited for trail running.
Kozjak got its name after ‘koza‘ which in Croatian means ‘goat‘. There is a legend about some goats, chased by wolves, who got lost near the lake. We still haven’t found them…
On this running tour you will be accompanied by us, local runners who all grew up on these trails. We will help you understand Plitvice lakes, its beauty and importance, why Tito liked spending time here, where the Croatian War of independence in 1991 started, and eventually to return to our finish line. Also, we will be happy to advise on where to eat, sleep and what else to do on Plitvice lakes.
IMPORTANT: This tour dour does not include tickets to the park. To avoid waiting in long queues (or even not being able to enter the park), we highly recommend you to book Park entrance tickets on official Park web page.
