Runner on the ground - FRAN

This run will take you through some of Reykjavik’s most scenic, quirky, and historically rich areas. Lace up your shoes just as the morning light begins to shimmer off the glassy surface of Harpa Concert Hall. The air is crisp, the sea breeze gentle. With a deep breath, we will begin the journey.

We will jog westward along the Sæbraut coastal path, the ocean to your right, and the city slowly waking up behind you. Soon, we will reach the Sun Voyager, a gleaming steel sculpture shaped like a Viking ship. You pause for a moment, imagining ancient explorers setting off into the unknown.

Turning inland, we will weave through the quiet streets of Downtown Reykjavík. Cafés are just opening, and the scent of fresh bread and coffee drifts through the air. We will pass Austurvöllur Square, where locals sip their morning drinks, and then begin the gentle climb up Skólavörðustígur, a street bursting with color and creativity.

At the top stands the majestic Hallgrímskirkja, its tower piercing the sky. We will circle the church, catching our breath and admiring the panoramic view of the city below.

From here, we will head south, the city giving way to trees as you enter the peaceful Öskjuhlíð forest. Birds chirp overhead as we ascend the wooded hill to Perlan, a futuristic dome perched above the city. We will run a loop around it, the forest trail soft beneath your feet, and take in the sweeping views from the top.

Descending into Fossvogsdalur Valley, the world becomes even quieter. The path winds through green meadows and alongside a gentle stream. It’s just you, nature, and the rhythm of your breath.

Eventually, the city reappears as we approach Tjörnin Pond, where swans glide across the water and children feed ducks along the shore. We will circle the pond, soaking in the calm.

With the finish line in sight, we will head toward the Old Harbour, where fishing boats bob in the water and the smell of the sea fills the air. We will slow to a walk, heart full, legs tired, and spirit lifted.

We’ve just run through the soul of Reykjavík — a journey through history, nature, and the heartbeat of the city.

Finally, we’ll coast along the waterfront to the Sun Voyager sculpture, a metal boat that screams “adventure” (but without the seasickness). It’s the perfect spot to stretch, snap some photos, and pretend you’re setting sail for somewhere exotic—like a warm beach, perhaps.

We’ll loop back to Harpa Concert Hall to end our tour, completing a route full of history, culture, and the kind of views that make you forget about how much your legs hurt. Reykjavik: a city that keeps you running, literally and metaphorically!
