ANTIGUA - SAN CRISTÓBAL EL ALTO - 12K
Runner on the ground - JUAN PABLO
Our San Cristóbal El Alto running tour begins in the central park. The municipal building, Palacio de los Capitanes Generales and the Cathedral surround the park. We will head south through cobblestone streets, passing by the Tanque La Union, the Church of Santa Clara, the Church of San Francisco, and El Calvario. A segment of asphalt road will provide a bit of rest for our feet and ankles.
Next, we will run to San Cristobal El Bajo, where we’ll stop to take photos and drink water. This town is also our first viewpoint of the Antigua point. From here, we will continue the ascent to San Cristobal El Alto. As we go up, we’ll marvel at the beautiful views of Agua, Fuego and Acatenango volcanoes.
Now it’s time to descend and continue the march – this time towards the Cerro de la Cruz. We will descend the same way we climbed, but when we reach the Church of El Calvario, we will take a different route. This route will take us through the famous arch of Santa Catalina and the Church of La Merced. When we reach the top of Cerro de la Cruz, we can observe another view of the city of Antigua. This spot would be our second viewpoint. Here again, we can take a break, click photos and have refreshments. This time, we’ll descend through the steps and head towards the central park. And this will be the end of our tour.
75% of this tour is on cobblestone streets, so we will do our best to run on the sidewalks so that it is not so tiring for you. But be very careful not to hit the balconies of the houses.
