ANTIGUA HALF MARATHON - 21K

Runner on the ground - JUAN PABLO
The 21-kilometre tour in Antigua Guatemala begins in the well-known Central Park. The municipal building, the Palace of the Captains General and the Cathedral surrounds the park. The first stretch is in the Cerro de la Cruz direction, passing through the main streets and avenues of the city. Here you will find restaurants, high-end hotels, museums, galleries, clothing stores, handicrafts, typical sweets, churches, markets, travel agencies, bars, government offices, nightclubs, and many other places of interest.
Passing near La Merced Church, the route now heads towards San Felipe, an exciting site in Antigua city. It is well known for its majestic processions during Holy Week. Then we will move to Jocotenango, where we will walk through its alleys until we reach Antigua again. But this time, we will be close to its municipal market until we get to the Hermitage of Santa Lucia.
At this point, we will be about to start the route that will take us to Ciudad Vieja. Here we will run on the cobblestone streets, and we will run on asphalt. It will be like a bit of a break for our ankles. We will take the bike path and pass in front of a large coffee farm, marvelling at all times by the spectacular view of the Agua Volcano.
Arriving at Ciudad Vieja, we will pass through its central park and head towards San Miguel Escobar and San Pedro Las Huertas. At this point, we will reach the cobblestone streets again and continue till the end of our tour in the central park. Before that, we’ll pass by the well-known church of El Calvario and Belen.
75% of this route is on cobblestone streets. So we will do our best to run on the sidewalks so that it’s not so tiring for you. But be very careful not to hit the balconies of the houses 🙂
